one fault straight away.

you onnly have one assault squad. they'll be targeted early on unless you keep them behind your rhinos.

Heavy Bolters are less effective than Missile Launchers. frag will get more wounds than HB if it's on target. and you can always fire krak at transports or characters.

Would you recommend changing the list to include more Assault Squad(s) or focus more on applying them tactically (whether it be deep strike or some other tactic?)

That's a good tip for the heavy weapons. That's something I probably wouldn't have noticed.

I see you like ravenguard, if you want a list that is fluffy, I would go for Shirke infiltrating an assault termie squad with lightning claws + A lot of assault with meltas, then drop the rest of whatever you want in.

But I actually don't see to much besides the lack of support for the assault marines, their big thing is to get up fast before the enemy can kill all of them, and shred them up in CQB. With yours your kind of letting them follow behind, it could work i suppose? I don't know you could try it out.

I would swap the Heavy Bolters and Lascannons in your Tactical Squads for Missile Launchers and give them all a Meltagun instead of Plasma, drop the Plasma out of your Assault Squad in favor of a Meltagun, give the Sergeant a Power Fist, and make both Predators Dakka preds with AC/HB. Use the extra points to fill out the Sternguard unit and give them a couple of Combi Meltas. You'd need to swap the Razorback for a Rhino of course. If you have any extra points you can put in a pair of Land Speeders with Multi-Meltas and Heavy Flamers for some additional anti-tank.

Hope that helps.

If the Captain is gonna be a CC guy, he should get a relic blade. If he cant then mind as well get a chaplain or librarian instead.

Yeah you're right, I just checked it. I knew there was a reason I would never take Assault Marines myself. I'm too used to Blood Angels lists these days and i forgot they can only take Flamers and plasma Pistols. Bleh.

Yes and No. A Shrike list is the best way to go when you are trying to be assaulty with the vanilla marine codex but lightning claws are not the way to do it. TH/SS are the best bargain in the dex and really should be used over the LC; at least 3:2 TH to LC.

I imagine an effective army at 2K should have something like the following:

HQ:
[1] Shrike
[2] Jump Chappy

Elite:
[1] Assault Termie Unit
LRC (Ded. TP)
[2] Assault Termie Unit
LR (Heavy)

Troop:
[1] Tactical squad with freebies and an TLLC Razorback
[2] CC Scouts x5 w/ ML, cloaks, and Melta Bomb

Fast:
[1] Assault Squad x10 w/ Thunder Hammer & 2x Flamers
[2-3] Land Speeders x3 w/ MM/HF

Heavy:
[1] (LR mentioned with Elite #2)

You are correct. They cannot get melta.

That sounds like a lot of good feed back.

Deuce, that's a pretty cool list. The more I looked at it, it made so much more sense. I see how dropping the Predators and getting the LR doubles for big guns with transport ability. Units can or cannot disembark a LR and assault in same turn?

I'd like to put together a powerful list that also plays live Raven Guard. I have the Shadow Captain Korvydae model, and I love to field it as a Captain or as himself, any tips on that? Also how many points is he?

Kayvaan is exactly 195 points. Use him to infiltrate a termie squad with TH/SH your opponent will be so scared of them they might not notice your using the rest of your army.

He also has the ability to allow them to run and assault in the same phase making assault troopers a great choice or scouts with CCW.

Edit: I just noticed you have the FW model, he is in Imperial Armour Volume 6: Siege of Vraks. It talks all about him, his stats and the ravenguard.

He has the ability to take assault troops as a troop choice rather than a fast attack one. He also has a TH, I prefer Shirke to him though.

LRs have assault ramps which allows the embarked unit to disembark and assault even after the transport has moved. So that means with Shrike (giving every unit fleet) allows CC termies to move 12 in the raider, disembark within 2 inches of the ramp, run D6 inches then charge 6 inches. If you pivoted the raider prior to movement that could give you an extra inch or so (i think this is BS beardy cheating but it is done all of the time). That means the termies have a minimum threat range of D6+20 inches! Two feet on average!

That's a great piece of advise, Duece. You have successfully altered my entire outlook on the use of LRs with Termies.

All in all since I have gotten back into the game, I really wanna get my army back to acting like Raven Guard. My current list is just to up front. I'm deff gonna play around with Shrike or Korvydae.

Ok you want it acting like Raven Guard and you have 2k..

Might I suggest (not listing points out)

Shrike
Jump Chaplain

Sternguard x 2 in rhinos

Tac Squads in Razorbacks x 3

Assault Squads (9 man each)
x 2

around 2000 points with some tweaking.

Vanguard are for a fluffy speed bump.

You could decide to take heavy support or another full 10 man assault squad. but the ability to assault the turn they arrive is worth it. especially with thunder hammers

Hmm problem though with the vanguard squad is that terminators are cheaper than them.

true. but assault terminators need a land raider. which makes them more expensive....

Corennus, that's a pretty gnarly list.

I do like the idea of using the assault termies with a LR or with Shrike.

I really wish Vanguard Vets weren't so freaking pricey. They're pretty much at the point of being broken.
