Ok, so this film's just come out on DVD. It wasn't widely shown as far as I'm aware, smaller independent cinemas - that sort of thing. I DO recall that a few people were interested in seeing it, and I was just wondering if anyone did?
For those of you who haven't heard of the film (which is, I'm guessing, quite a lot of you...), it's a comedy about suicide bombers.
Yes, you read that correctly.
WAIT! Come back! It actually works. The plot revolves around what can only be described as a small cell of 'amateur Jihadis' and their bumbling attempts to become fully-fledged soldiers of Islam - and it's funny. Very, very funny. In fact, it's one of the funniest films I've seen in years.
Some people may think that it's a touchy subject, and they'd be right of course. There was massive potential for this to go horribly wrong - I'm thinking a terrible Adam Sandler-type film with fart gags and nail-bombs. But this film is by Chris Morris, which should be a seal of approval all on it's own.
I'm not going to write a review on it as there are plenty out there already, and they are all pretty much excellent. I will however post the trailer, and urge you in the strongest possible terms to go and rent this film.
SIDEBAR:Completely coincidentally, I rented this film and watched it on September 11th. Weird.
I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.
Its out in cinemas here now, but from what I saw it got mostly middling reviews. I think most people were happy with the treatment of the subject, just commented that it relied almost entirely on 'these guys are really over the top stupid', which can get wearing over the course of the film.
There's another British comedy out now, with a moderate Muslim fellow who finds out he's actually Jewish - that looked pretty funny. Anyone seen that?
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.

Really? I'm quite surprised by that, actually. Yes, the guys are buffoons, but not in a Will Ferrell kind of way. I suggest watching it and making your own mind up - I think you'd like it sebster. Have you seen anything by Chris Morris before - 'The Day Today', 'Brass Eye' etc.?

Can't remember what that's called, I know it's got Omid Djalili in it. I didn't fancy it. Funnily enough, THAT got middling reviews here. Swings and roundabouts, I guess...
Here's a scene from Four Lions:

Saw it in the cinema few months ago, didnt expect much.. but it was brilliant.
We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.
This film is one of my my favourite films of the year. I got to see some of the 'London' bits being filmed just down the road from my FLGS and my house is just yards out of shot during some scenes.

I haven't seen any other Morris stuff, I don't think his stuff has gotten much coverage outside of the UK.

Yeah, it didn't get great reviews here, either. Seemed to be summed up as a nice idea that fell a bit short.
But if you think I'll like Four Lions I'll go see it. Not sure if anyone else I know would be interested, though, might have to wait for it to come out on video.
I have seen that clip before, though, funny stuff.
