Long Time Lurker, First Time Poster
I just started playing orkz, and though I love them dearly and intimately, it seems like there's a fair bit of pidgeon-holing going on as far as acceptable list choices, and even though I acknowledge that things like:
Kan Wall
Battlewagon Spam
Green Tide
Mech Orkz
Are all wonderful and special in their own unique way, it seems a bit repetitive. Namely in HQ choices, your options tend to be: Big Mek or Warboss.
The words "Shock and Waaaagh" came to me today at work (I googled it, and I didn't see anything other than some guy's blog as the first 5 results, got bored, and decided I invented the term). Basically, I want to ride the waves of probability on the back of a weirdboy, and I shall not be denied!
With that said... anybody got any ideas of what to do with that?

I've decided to play 40K because of all the statistics problems I'll get to solve and all the spreadsheets I'll get to make. |

Wierdboyz (well, Warp'eadz really) go well with Flashgitz, as the Gitz' Snazzgunz really put the dakka in where-ever 'Ere We Go takes you while having a small footprint as a unit, a Dok to provide Feel No Pain, and some reasonable close combat capability, particularly with if you take Old Zogwort. Something to remember is that Snazzguns without the Blasta upgrade still beat Sv3+ 50% of the time. With the Shootier upgrade they can hit vehicles with AP1 1/6. Always take the More Dakka upgrade: it doubles their firepower.
Other firepower intensive and rarely-taken options include Warbikers whose Dakkaguns are basically short-ranged Big Shootas with phenomenal accuracy (for Orks), Lootas, and Boyz with Shootas.

Gitz being useful would be a nice change. I've always liked the idea of them. I was also thinking of including Wazdakka and attaching him to a 2x rokkit kommando squad with Snikkrot.
The general theory I was thinking of was lots of outflanking/deepstriking, and a Warphead bouncing around and being useful whenever he felt like it.
Thought I'd proxy standard boyz for deep striking stormboyz and use small outflanking bikermobs as troops choices. If nothing else, it's something different.
Since I'm a new player, I figured a list that was focused on "riding the waves of probability" would be pretty good practice. Meaning that by having to deal with all manner of unexpected occurances, good or bad I'd get better at rolling with the punches.

The list I've been running might meet what you are looking for...
warboss with a pack of nobs and painboy
warp'ead or old zogwort
20 shootaboys x infinity
This is really fun at the 1000 - 1500 level.
My main opponent is Tau and he hasn't figured out how to beat it yet.
Use terrain to get cover saves. The warboss pack utterly kills suits once in combat. The weirdboy (whether warpead or zogwort) goes with one of the shootaboy packs to cause random mayhem and keep my opponent on his toes. I got smeared by Raven Guard, though...
The other thing that popped into my mind at Shock and Waagh was Shokk attack gun and a weirdboy+flash gitz. That could be a crazy fun list. Not necessarily effective, but fun. I totally love that idea and may just run it next time I play! Shokk attack = Shock, and since Warp'eads can cause multiwaaghs it all works. And talk about being at the mercy...uh... riding the wave of probability!

Shock and Waaagh!? I like it. No. I LOVE it.
Sounds like a good time for a Shokk Attack Gun! Old Zogwort is awesome since he can turn even the scariest IC's into useless squigs.
Burnaz are a hell of a time too (and can cause serious hell)
Idk about the Gitz...i would love to see them used well but i think they are too pricey, Lootaz in mass are hilarious though! (and can be very effective)

Turning a space wolf special character into a squig would totally make it worth it. I would even let the squig still ride the thunder wolf.

warpheads are an awsome hq choice, if not for the sheer fun of having a psyker randomly atempt to blow stuff up or teleport around the field. and odley enough whenever i field one, he alwsy seems to know what to do...
