Up to now I've been using GW's own range of brushes, but I'm finding they're not the best quality, deteriorating fairly quickly, and losing their points and so on. I want to invest in a better quality brush, but I'm not sure of the approximate comparable size between, say, a GW Fine Detail brush and a 000, 00 etc.

Can someone suggest a quality range of brushes, and the size(s) I should be after please?

Rosemary & Co. Don't let the elitists tell you that Windsor Newton are they best, they are overpriced.

Now that brand is out of the way here is what I use:

series 92: 4/0
series 22: 1, 0
series 33: 3/0
series 323: 2/0

Shouldn't be more than $25 for those and as long as you clean them every now and then with Masters Brush Cleaner they will last you years of use.

With the exception of eyeball brushes, I use the mentioned sizes for every last thing I do.

if you want an eyeball brush, I use Army Painter Wargamer: Insane Detail for eyes and super fine items.

I use a large variety of brushes, but I use my smallest brushes the most.

I do a lot of work with my 4/0 artists brush, but all fine detail work and a lot of my hard highlights with a 10/0 brush.

I get my brushes from Michaels crafts.

I also use some bigger square brushes for base coating large areas, and some really big ones for vehicles.

He's in the UK. Not sure they have Michaels there. Rosemary & Co. Are based in the UK so they should be easy to find. Google is your friend.

Thanks for the suggestions guys...

aerethan, I've just ordered a couple from Rosemary & Co to see how they go. They're ony about 3 quid each, half the price of W&N (which I had been thinking about). If I like them I'll get some more...

They are the same hair as W&N too. Unbeatable price for the quality.

@aerethan: Where do you get your R&C brushes? Just order them from England on-line or is there a good US source?

I order from England.

CMON has them but are often out of stock.
