Hey guys i was just wondering if anyone out there could point me in the right direction for some new brushes. I use the GW brushes and i think there great i have no complaints with them although i wouldnt mind finding some with finer points than the smallest GW ones. If anyone knows of any other brands of brushes i can try any info would be great so i can compare them myself.
Im not really fussed if they are shipped from abroad if there good brushes ill pay the P&P.

Cheers Guys

The new GW brushes are good.

Imo - the very best are Raphael. Both the 8404 and 8408 are really nice brushes. You can use a 0 or 1 size and have a better, sharper tip that holds paint better than most other 000 size brushes.

Winsor and Newton Series 7 (regular) are also fantastic brushes and very much like the Raphael.

I've AB'd most of the good and recommended brushes, and IMO those two brands are the best. I found the DaVinci garbarge in direct comparison.

Windsor and Newton, hand's down. The Series 7s have a great point, and last forever if you don't abuse them.

Cheers m8, A quick question if you could answer it for me....If these brushes you mentioned are size 0,1 or 000 what size is the GW fine detail so i could get a rough estimate. Cheers m8.

0 is the most useful. But have a 2/0 around for small lines.

I used reaper brushes (and still do) for the longest period this year, but just got a 0 and 000 Winsor and Newton Series 7 - I've been very impressed with them so far.

I tried using Royal brushes for a while but they don't seem to hold their tips very well; it's a shame as they have a really comfortable spongy rubber grip behind the metal part.

If you do order from ASWExpress.com, I would recommend getting on their mailing list and wait for the next 15% off, or mega-brush sale. They do both fairly frequently; but I think both Raphael and Winsor and Newton are European made brushes... seems a shame to order them from the US if you are already in UK hehe.

I don't know if they can be found in Usa, but I really like Kreator Studio's pencils.

I actually prefer Princeton brand over Windsor and Newton. They take up paint beautifully and just work great for my style. My local art store marked them 50% off so I took advantage...buying up all the 10/0 and 18/0! Great Brushes and cheaper than W&N!

I have always liked The Army Painter. The triangular shape of the handle is really helpful, and give me a large amount of control.

The best? Kind of a relative question, but I've always heard that Windsor Newton 7 Series are the 'best'.

Personally, I get along fine with Citadel brushes. I think the quality vs. price is pretty decent.

edit: It's probably worth pointing out (not sure if anyone already did) that unless your painting skills are really good, you're pissing your money away on expensive brushes. The brush does not make the painter any better.

I managed to find a UK based Art & Craft website that sells the Raphael Round Matadors and the Windsor Newton Series 7, They are going for about £4.50 to £5.00 each so i got 3 of each brand going from size 0, 00 and 000. Looking forward to testing them out on my minis.

Cheers to all of you for the info i really appreciate it
