Yesterday I bought about 1700 pts of Necrons from a friend that he had never used. Another friend of his had assembled them, and that is where the issue comes from. Not a single one of the models is assembled in an acceptable manner, most of them are not assembled at all. Best I can tell, there's a Necron Battleforce, 3 Heavy Destroyers, a Destroyer Lord, and 3 Pariahs.

The pariahs are in the best condition of anything. One of them is missing a warscythe, but they seem to be in ok condition. No bases.

The Destroyers are in sad shape. Only one of them has its torso glued on, and it is in an extremely contorted position. The destroyer body is not glued together. No arms or weapons.

Most of the warriors aren't even assembled, but the few that are were assembled poorly. I'm not sure if I have enough heads or arms for all of them. The ones that are assembled are in odd positions, it appears he just smothered them in glue and hoped for the best. Arms are glued on the wrong way, heads on backwards, and worst of all the rods are already glued in to the unpainted models, and are proving to be nigh impossible to get out, seeing as they are drenched in superglue.

The Destroyer Lord is ok as well, he is assembled correctly and is only missing one arm, which I have an extra of.

The Heavy Destroyers are either not assembled or broken. With one of them it looked like he messed up, so he let the glue dry completely, then broke it in half and left it like that.

I cannot say I have ever seen a worse assembly job. I will post pics if I can find my digital camera. Does Dakka have any suggestions on how to remedy this? Not sure what type of glue he used, but it is very difficult to remove, so I would also appreciate suggestions on how to remove glue so I can disassemble the entire army and put it together correctly. Thank you!

Man that sucks.... hate to hear about a decent army being made poorly.

As your question, im not overly sure if this works but people say that sitting them in warm water will brttle super glue, making it easier to disassemble. If it plastic glue he used then dig out a hobby knife and cut them at the join points if you can find them.

There's your problem right there

For the rest, if they are metal, soaking in acetone will loosen up superglue.

Not to concerned about the metal models, it looks like he assembled them with plastic glue. They come apart real easy. Some of the models are assembled with gravity though. No adhesive whatsoever, so those are ok. It's the plastic glue that he bathed the models in that's causing me trouble.

How old was this "friend"?

I would recommend nail-polish remover for the metal models, and a good warm water soak for the plastic ones.

Good luck!

He was about 16 or 17 if I recall correctly. He assembled his Space Wolves alright, but his CSM look horrible, more so than the 'crons.

I hate them, i hate them i really really want them to be crushed in a car compactor.........damn Necrons ¬¬

Anyway, for the metal ones i would attempt dipping them in hot watter to possibly breakdown the glue, otherwise the only thing that comes to mind is acetone.

Maybe he assembled them when he was drunk, or on some sort of violent bloodrage. Really, though, that is weird.

Good luck!

Regular superglue, use some simple green. On some models I got cheap off of eBay it made it easier for e to disassemble the bad glue job. Not all parts came apart. You can also try to freeze the models, however you can make the plastic brittle as well. Not worth breaking them in my opinion. Necrons are spindly and break easy as it is.

If he used plastic glue, either live with the modeling, or cut it apart with a good sturdy hobby knife. Plastic glue will actually cause each piece to melt together like a weld, it becomes one piece of plastic. It is great glue if you use it right, and do not ever want to take apart.

Hope that helps. Post up some pics of the before and then the after if you are fixing them. Others may have or input than myself. Good luck!

There is a product called "unglue" that softens superglue, but it melts plastic.

Unless you can cut the joints where plastic glue was used I think it's a lost cause, as already said, it "welds" the plastic together and fuses it rather than just adhering to it and if he's used as much as you say he has you might not even be able to cut it apart properly.

You might try applying some slow but constant twisting pressure to the parts. This sometimes works and may work especially well if he's used so much glue that the plastic hasn't fused properly because it's flexible and will come apart eventually.

If all else fails I can do you a good deal on some Necron parts... *cough*

Try the old soak in Dettol antiseptic solution, it'll strip the paint without damaging the models and make the glue soft enough to pull apart, depending on the state of the mini, you should be able to clean them up quite well and re assemble.

Sorry about the poor picture quality, I had to use my cell phone camera.
Also, the examples of the horrors described above are no longer a problem, as those were the first ones I took apart. Here's whats left.

Here's what I mentioned with the green rod, and this one had a leg snapped off for some reason. Hard to see in the pic, but there is glue oozing out of the joints.

This is another one that has the way to much glue issue, it is flowing out of all crevices, but hard to see in the pic. Arms are not glued in to the sockets, but held on by a strand of dried glue. It is also badly posed.

Yet again with the badly assembled. This one is easier to see, like how the arm isn't in the socket, and again, badly posed.

I know these were stepped on at some point, most of them are not going to be fixed, but I may be able to salvage one or two bases.

I will post WIP and "After" photos as the project continues. Again, I apologize for the craptastic camera quality.

Well, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that has found craptasticly assembled Necrons and gone in for the revamp. I'm not a fantastic modellor, but it took a box of warriors, completely chopped, and a whole lot of ingenuity to even attempt the fix on my Necron Warriors. I bought two broken armies from two people and forged it into what I have now. (also up for sale btw) I do not envy your task of bringing back these Necrons. It took the power of a star god to make them originally and the task of man to bring them back from the dust. Good luck!

I'd be riding this "friend" for burning you this bad. That was a bum deal, unless you gave him $5 for the lot...

Also, try putting some of the poorly made models in the freezer about a day or so. I bought an old Rhino off eBay that was a little off kilter, I put it in the freezer and I was able to crack the glue mostly by hand.

Maybe make it part of the theme? Shamble or swampy Necrons would be a really cool take on them.

I'm not sure. I only know of the guy, kind of a "friend of a friend" kind of thing. That said, I am never letting him near any of my models ever again.

THIS.

Ancient, damages and short circuiting. Make the whole army riddled with damage and go nuts on the weathering. Perhaps they got left on a sandstorm deathworld for a billion years.

Well, I would, but I need them to match the rest of my army. I bought these as a supplement, not a starting force. Awesome idea for my Tomb Kings though.

Ahhh, too bad you aren't starting a new army with them. I think that a bunch of necrons crawling out of some swamp would be AWESOME. Old, rusty necrons covered in algae, weeds and mud would be pretty great.

If they're supplemental then I guess you've got some cleanup work to do!
