After literally 2 years of begging, my manager has relented: Our bookshop is getting some Warhammer fiction!
After putting Rynn's World by S Parker on the shelf as a test run he was suprised at how quickly it sold. So he's asked me to compile a list of books to put in our Sci-Fi/Fantasy section. Now, I enjoyed the Ciaphas Cain series and I've read a couple of other 40k books, but I'm no expert in the Black Library range. So, if y'all could give me your top 5 Warhammer Fantasy Books and top 5 40k then you'll be doing the little town of Somerset West in South Africa a huge edumacation in the wonders of Warhammer fluff!

So please, help a brother out

Definatly include the Horus heresy and Gaunts Ghosts series', as they're some of the most popular. Omnibuses are also a good idea.

Enforcer - Shira Calpurnia Omnibus
Horus Heresy series
Gaunt's Ghosts series
Soul Drinker's series
all the collected short stories books
Path of the Warrior

EDIT- fantasy books:

Bloodborn
Gotrek and Felix series
Malus Darkblade Series
Thanquol and Boneripper
one other Empire book about this guy who goes from captured gladiator slave to aspiring champ... it was awesome.

that should be a solid foundation.

Malus Darkblade and Eisenhorn seconded. Along with Ciaphas, they're my favourites.

Not so sure on Soul Drinkers if you have limited shelf space.

Gathering the Informations.

The "Time of Legends" books, for sure for Fantasy.
"Heldenhammer", "Empire", "Sigmar", "Malekith", "Shadow King", "Nagash the Unbroken", etc.

As mentioned, definitely Eisenhorn, Gaunt's Ghosts(definitely include the Sabbat Worlds Anthology that comes out next month. Is a great "sampler" of some of Black Library's best and brightest) and Darkblade but also going to add in "Soul Hunter" and "Cadian Blood".

From cover art alone, those should guarantee some interest and more than likely quite a few sales.

Do you want a list of other SciFi/Fantasy as well, or just Warhammer?

Imperial Guard omnibus is v good and might appeal to many readers as it is mostly from the point of view of normal-ish humans

Basically, anything by Dan Abnett!

Gaunt's Ghosts
Titanicus
Brothers of the Snake
Double Eagle
Eisenhorn
Ravenor

Horus Heresy series

I'd also recommend the Shira Calpurnia novels by Matthew Farrer and the Ciaphas Cain ones by Sandy Mitchell

Most of the Space-Marine-based ones are awful - with the exception of Brother of the Snake. I guess the most competently written ones are probably by Graham McNeill - I found the Blood Angels and a lot of the 'Legendary' series a bit meh.

The Angelika Fleischer series. About a girl who loots the dead on battlefields, a rather interesting anti-hero in the warhammer world.

Herohammer was invented by players on a budget

Okay, the list is in (hand written with a brief synopsis of each so that he gets an idea about them) and now we'll have to see what'll be ordered. Have yet to speak to the man, saw him very briefly and said we'll chat about it later this week. Thanks so much, you guys. This friendliness is what makes Dakka awesome ^_^

We've got quite a big sci-fi section, but always eager to get something new. Brent Weeks is doing very well, can't wait for his new one! And the new Joe Abercrombie's coming out in Feb! So yeah, if you got something you think's awesome PM me a list and I'll put it out there.
