Never played crons before, but allways liked a few of the models, so grabbed the book and decided to build up a basic sized army to add to my collection
Generally ill be playing orks, but tau will also be on the list (have 2 players that live within 100 yards of me lol)

So, never used them, but ive got this so far:

HQ:

Nightbringer - 360 - he is big, costs a ton and a half, but ill be playing orks led by thraka and full of nobz, so i need that ID and ignoring +/++ saves.
Necron lord - res orb, veil - 200 - simply to keep units alive, and also to get them out of the way when needed.

Elite:

6 Immortals - 168 - Sheer firepower and ability to mow down orks.
6 Immortals - 168 - ^

Troop:

10 warriors - 180 - basic core
10 warriors - 180 - ^
10 warriors - 180 - ^

Fast:

5 destroyers - 250 - mobile firepower
5 destroyers - 250 - ^
6 scarab swarms - distribution fields - 96 - Fast enough to drop vehicles when needed, may replace them if i cant get them to work out.

Heavy:

monolith - 235 - again, to help reposition units, and also for the shooting and general ability to survive against all odds.
monolith - 235 - ^

2,502

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Quick side note here, but i could make a few changes here and there.
Mainly with adding in another HS choice.

I could drop:

4 Immortals (the rest will form a unit of 8) - 112
3 scarab swarms - 48

then add in:

Tomb spider x3 - 165 (a bit over, so may need to change a little more, like cutting all scarabs and adding an immortal back in)

Weapon wise ill more than likely take claws on them, i can then use them to hold back units.
Since i know snikrot is being taken with 10 kommandos, i can keep a spider or 2 back and spawn swarms ready to pit them and hack them apart.

Thoughts?

Keep the two immortal squads in two units rather than running the tomb spiders ive found them to not be the best at 2000+ point games for favor of more units that buffer phase out rather than a small CC road bump

Always stick to two units if they have the WBB rule that way if 1 is wiped out the other will still allow them to make the roll

I tend to go for the deceiver when picking a Ctan but that is just preference ive seen the Nightbringer work well too

why why why would you take the nightbeinger over the deceiver? Deciever is so much better and 60 points cheaper!

I see his rules arent bad, but how so much better?

Decieve - Thats great and all, but not much is going to run away unless i throw pariahs near them.

Illusion isnt bad however, but if i dont get the 1st turn it doesent matter.

Dread - again, not that great since it relies on them failing a test.

Misdirect - 100% amazing, however, not enough to change my mind.

Don't forget even fearless units like snikrots commando s can get pinned with that while you dakka them down. Against orks I would take more dakke to keep them out of combat, gaz and NB tend to have it out in cc, but if they have lootas you could that NB pretty quick. Use your monoliths to block cc alleys and redirect his troops. Don't forget to move the monoliths too, so his nob with pk doesn't auto hit. Pie plate the vehicles that are zooming at you and line your warriors against table edge to deny a flank, he can t move over or within 1inch. Make him bring snikrot in where you choose, not where he want to. Deciever is the best unit ever, cause you can pin gaz and whatever squad he s with sure he might get to reroll that bosspole ld, but there's always a chance. More destroyers is better, if you have the models drop the scarabs for them more the merrier. My 2 cents good luck and let us know how it goes

While fearless is ignored for such tests, thier LD isnt changed however.
So, alot of armies now either have high LD, or a form of boost or re-roll that helps them.
The decievers rules are outstanding against lesser armies, however, they rely too heavily on low LD, which is a real pain as i want to plan out a few steps ahead of time, with this i cant be sure.

Not only that, but its the boosts in nightbringers profile that really help.
That single point of S means he can cause instant death on T5, something which generally causes a huge problem on multi-wound models.

For example: 6 bikernobz with a biker boss.
Deciever will take around 3 wounds off of them (less iff they have a waaagh! banner)
Nightbringer will cause 4-5 instant death wounds on them, meaning whats left wont be enough to kill him.

Also, since im playing against ork and tau mainly, Etheric Tempest really hits home well.
So thats a nice answer to the decievers rules.

Gazoe of death - Atleast if i do get swarmd by boyz its possible to really do alot of damage.
A large blast over a 40mm base leaves huge overhang, meaning it will get more than a few hits.

The lightning isnt the best in the world, but S9 AP2 is still nice for popping tanks (or i could just assault them lol)
Might however just be used for an extra kill before assaulting, time will tell.

With that aside, there are 2 units im interested in alot, but not sure what to make of them.

1: Flayed ones - Amazing initiative for a necron.
They have 2 attacks basic.
For 3 points a model i can send them tank hunting with fields.
Visage isnt all that good, but none the less handy.

So, to me it seems like an average assault unit with a few perks.

2: Pariahs - Pretty much a single wound lord in terms of stats (minus wounds and attacks)
Thier gauss blasters make them as good as immortals, with a better statline.
Warscythes are nice, crons need a unit that can ignore saves in mass, rather than the odd character here and there.
It also seems like a unit of 5-6 with a orb+veil lord will work well for getting about the board.

It is however thier points cost that isnt the best.
+1 I, S and A.
However, they dont count as a necron, so dont count towards phasing out.
And the bigger problem - no WBB (i think?)

So yeah, thats just my thoughts on it.

Pariah s can't be VOD. Only units with Necron special rule can use the veild of darkness. Pariahs aren't Necron, so no WBB.... they are most effective as an assualt deterrent rather than anything else. Their affect on psyckers is good, as well as in combination with deceivers abilities, lowering ld to 7. The flayed ones don't move fast enough to generally tank hunt. Scarabs are more effective... but if your FA slots are taken by 15 destroyers, then flayed ones it is. I don't know about ur dice luck, but my NB has a tendancy to epicly fail at shooting.... deciever can pin broadsides amazingness in a MC. Against Nob bikers NB is probably better, but deceiver has higher I. I am a big fan of the NB and fielded him myself way more than deceiver, both have merits. Both are expensive as crap. Your choice there

Didnt see that, so thanks
I guess they will have to be left out for now, until i find a way of making thier cost effective enough for use.
However, it might be worth throwing a unit of 6 in a list with deciever, as you said, the lowered LD is pretty nice, and should cause most units to fail every time. (average roll of 7)

Point taken about flayed ones
Just needed a general unit that would have more effect in CC than basic warriors. (not alot more, but it helps )

Fast attack will generally be 2 units of 5 destroyers, leaving me with a single slot.
I think scarabs might win out here due to speed and tank hunting, even as cool as the wraiths look lol.

My luck, well, i have tons!
Never any good though.

I think this will be a case of testing out both from time to time and find which i prefer.
Both have great models though, and both will be great to paint up (started on the nightbringer anyway)

Also, if immortals pay off well enough i may be tempted to scrap a lith (ok, its tough, but i need support when i need it, rather than when it feels like it) and grab 8 more immortals.
I can then either run 3 units of them (6,7,7) or i can run 2 units of 10 instead.

Necrons work best when you repeat multiple squads. Just for wbb purposes. Check my subscribed threads for a post started by dash of pepper for a lot of good advice on crons.... there's some crap in there but several decent lists and lots of experience...two liths is also fantastic for blocking close combat lanes. Anyway hope this info helps love to see a battle report.
