I was looking under the rules for dedicated transports and saw that if a model has a dedicated transport, the transport can have the same designation as the unit it carries into battle. That means a Rhino carrying Space Marines counts as a unit of Troops.

Normally vehicles do not count as a scoring unit for an objective , and since I don't have a Codex handy for Tyranids, I was wondering if the Mycetic Spore counts as a scoring unit if it takes a unit of Tyranid troops into battle and lands on an objective.

Thank you. Not having codex=not knowing things like that.

Not only what X said, but the rhino is only scoring due to having troops inside it (which score, not the transport).
the spore, even without that wording couldnt score.

Well if a Rhino still had troops in it, yes it could count as scoring. I didn't think about that angle for the Mycetic Spore.

So the short version is is that a Mycetic Spore could be used for Objective Denial...interesting...

Unless it was bought for a Troops Unit, since the Spod is a MC, not a Vehicle.

In any case, this is not a forum to ask for rules wholesale. If you have a question, READ THE CODEX FIRST. If you don't have it, tough.

Extremely annoying, and reasonably effective objective denial.

Thank you Gwar. I'll keep that in mind next time I argue with someone's codex when I don't have one to argue against them with.

The short answer to that is don't play with people that won't let you see their codex.

That is pretty over-the-top. Not having the codex on me is ok but not owning it at all isn't.

@Warone, next time lie and say your codex is at home.

This. I only tend to play new people myself if we both have the codex for each army and a main rulebook between us. Helps stop misinterpretations.

If you left it at home, wait until you get home to read it. If you still have a question, THEN make a post.

These forums are not a replacement for the rulebooks...

And I respectfully disagree with your attitude towards it and the stance you are taking.

Thank you for your input nonetheless Gwar! and for others who contributed to the answer.

Its not his stance, its the forum rules - this place ISNT a replacement for your codex.

Whatever you may think of Gwar!'s tone, he is dead right that we cannot give out rules here - only discuss them.

Whilst that can be a fine line to draw, in this case it's pretty clear.

nosferatu1001- I understand that it is not a place to replace a codex. Rather than get into a future debate with a Tyranid player about a Mycetic Spore, I thought to ask a question regarding the Mycetic Spore and now I have a firm understanding of whay a Mycetic Spore cannot do in regards to scoring so I do not make a stupid mistake about assumptions of what a model can and cannot do.

And again I thank everyone for their response either way.

Except if you had had the codex you could have seen that for yourself - which is why this forum ISNT a replacement for a codex. If it was unclear then yes, ask away - but it isnt unclear, just requres you to have access to the codex.

You not having access to the codex isnt a problem of this forum.

And I thank you again nosferatu1001 for reiterating this fact.

If you want, I can petition a moderator to delete/lock this thread so that the matter of questioning about a Mycetic Spore's scoring ability or lack there-of ends.

Don't mind them, they're just confused by someone choosing to remain civil while responding. In other news, thank you for being polite and civil, we don't get that much around here.

I don't particularly agree, I have found my stay at Dakka to be really friendly, and I believe that the only thing which seems un-civil might be the language barriers in terms of multiple nationalities being represented. That does not make it un-civil, it just makes it seem that way.

Anyway, apologies for highjacking your thread to have a moral debate. I hope your question has been answered.

Can get heated, sometimes, though.

I think most of us would be happy to provide anything but the most obvious rules if it didn't lead to the board getting shutdown under a pile of cease and desist letters. As it is, if it's clear in the rules we're limited to pointing out pages.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.
