my name is Allie... i'm 29 and just started playing warhammer 40k.... i am playing nids and love converting....
so my hubby thought it would be a good idea to document my conversions online... i just bought a digital camera and am very excited to start posting.. i have a few pics of my mycetic spore idea taken w/ my crappy cell phone... im about 1/2 way done... and wanted to share!!!

so far these are the materials ive used....

started with styrofoam fake flower thinggys i found @ the dollar store... 2 green trapazoids (rounded sides...) stacked big sides on top of each other.. and 1 circle cut in half to make an egg shape... sanded it down then covered it in plaster cloth....

next used green stuff to make a portal door and using the same idea i had for my tervigon (ill show pics on another posty) stomach i made veins to make it look more organic....


then i took plastic sheets and cut one into a long triangle... then cut individual sized pentagons and used green stuff to raise the front.. then super glued the bottom.... starting with the smallest working the way down the back.... using green stuff i did the same idea with the portal door to have veins running up the back... this is as far as ive gotten... i bought both hobby town and stonebridge games out of green stuff.... anyone have a cheaper alternative to green stuff?! i would love ideas/input on my conversion!!!

I think I just found my next material to purchase and next project to start!

One idea I had was trying to melt plastic bottles into some kind of egg shape... Wasn't working though... But it was fun melting stuff.

If you want a cheaper version of green stuff but the same quality, try Galeforce 9.
Saved me a small fortune over the time ive been using it.

There's a model out by Micro Art Studios and this is almost as good, nice work!

After looking at that i might have to make a few fr my nids

Since the only pre-made sculpts ive seen cost anywhere from £25 - £50

Depending on how much youre willing to spend on green stuff this is a cheap way to make one.. takes alot of time but fun!

Amazing green stuff work... but maybe it's the color I don't like it's to "happy"

Can quite put my finger on it but I think it's like this... if Tim Burton did a remake of Strawberry Shortcake this would be the house she lived in if that makes any sense LOL

The crater looks pretty decent.
I'd skew the angle a bit on the spore though so it looks as if it wasnt dropped straight down.

Looks really cool, but a little bit too bright, perhaps a black and red scheme would look more... tyranid-y?

Hah I think it looks awesome. Not sure about it being pink but what the heck. What color are your nids?

this is very nice work especially the sculpt. I would like to see more pics of the backside,...of the spore and i agree with gunzhard about colour , but maybe just an accent colour like bone or blue? the base looks great in grey as it is but a sculpted thick tendril around and off to one side , might make it look less symetrical and maybe some other sizes medium and small would look good with it as well.

I'm a girl... my nids are female... they love pink and purple!!!!

Pink nids = made of wintanium.

Also it looks good - wiswyg and it blocks a lot of LOS

take back every thing i said just had a look at your army in the introductions page , they are really immpresive , the pink , purple and pale blue and bone , are a very nice combination. and the pink doesnt seem at all out of place within the full set.

That spore does look really good. Its just Really Really big. In the size comparison shot the spore towers over even a trygon. (which is as we all know a huge model)

But it does look great. Any ideas on a slightly smaller version?

Just buy smaller foam... or cut the foam down... yea i wanna make different sizes... this was just my first go

looking pretty good there so far, makes me wonder why the FW mycetics are so small
