ok im working on expanding my ork army, and with all the vehicles ive picked up i have TONS of leftover bits and pieces. i started working on some kustom rigs that are unique to my army and i feel would be fun to play. my question is thus: are the VDR rules printed in chapter aprooved still valid? what are peoples thoughts on using them to create vehicles? also, if one wanted to create something like a special character could the tyranid rules in the VDR be transfered and still represent a fair points cost? i realise that in the end it comes down to opponents consent, but im just wondering about the general opionions of the vdr as they apply to 5th ed.

It was written for 3rd ed, so it's a little out of date with costings (most of the base vehicles for armies are now cheaper - well, most things with a better than 3rd ed codex, anyway).

You'd be hard pressed to find people willing to let you use it (as most are of the opinion that you MUST play with the latest version of the rules - even if you never play tournaments - or they were burned when THEY used it to create abominations unto the machine cult.)

If you are using it to make a statline for a vehicle model you have (and haven't used in a decade) just to try it out, then I'd be cool with it. If you're using it to make up an A14 superheavy bucket of bolters with void shields - then no.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
