On paper this guy looks amazing but is he woth it? Dose anyone play him competatively? I think he could be effective in a kan wall/green tide army . Am I wrong in this assumption?

Ghazghkull is amazing on the field as well as on paper. He is seen in a large number of competitive lists. He is seen in green tide due to the sheer number of boyz he can give that guaranteed 6" WAAAGH! to.
I see him more often in mechanized lists because of slow and purposeful. On his Waaagh! turn you can charge ghazghkull into almost anything with little fear. Under 1000 points he's usually too expensive to take.

You must understand that for an ork a day that starts off killing something with your bare hands, and ends with those same hands being chopped off in battle, is a good one.

He's incredible. I hate him so very, very much.

I agree Tom, for his pint cost and all the gak he does, not just his own CC stats (which I have seen higher point models with worse stats). he is one the best characters out there period.

He is a bright light of awesome in an otherwise mediocre codex.
My favorite? Put him in kommando list with snikrot, attached to said squad, and ambush something with your automatic 6 inch whaaargh!

A lot of places won't allow this, OP, so check before you try and do it (I know for a fact that our local GW banned it).
Even if he was allowed, you can't detach him when he comes in, and your squad has to roll for slow and purposeful when they come in (the whole squad) - so it could screw you if your opponent isn't an idiot.
It could also not come in until the end of the game.
Edit: Also keep in mind his power waaagh still works even if he dies; which is pretty sweet.

gazakul is probably the single best IC for his point cost I've seen his rip Abbadon in half on the charge and beat the crap out of the sanguinor( and he is 50pts less than them lol) but he is really really good.

Are you playing at 1250 points or more? If so take Ghaz. Hell, I'd consider him at 1000 based on what list you are running. All things considered he comes out to be around 90 more points than a similarly equipped Warboss and is far, far better.

IMO, if you take him at 1000, you have to take nothing but Boyz squads (and Gretchin for objectives) - you lose a lot of your utility taking him at 1000 (ie points for your Deffkoptas, Burnas, Lootas, Big Mek etc).
At 1500 I'd say you can always take him no matter what.

To Magnalon, yes I see some people ban attaching ICs to snikrot even though it is perfectly legal, whatever. However you can detach him the turn he comes in. When you come in from reserve onto a table edge you "start" touching the edge wherever you choose and move onto the board per normal moving. All it takes to detach or attach an IC is to end him within 2" for attaching, or end at least 1" away for detaching.
I would say that it is illegal to have snikrot come on one end of a table edge and ghaz come on the other end. He was attached and so must originate from the same point.

Agreed that it is legal.
But like I said, even GW could possibly ban it, so just don't base your whole strategy around it: have another list.

Ghaz is definitely a force multiplier. Being able to utilize the Waaagh at any point after the 1st turn adds a lot to your army. During the Waagh, he can go after things on his own, which is a bit rare for ICs. He's tough as nails and very flexible in nealry every army. He is in pretty much every army I field that is above 1500 points.
Basically, yes, he a great model for the Orks.
And no, we don't play with him coming in with Snikrot. No one is yet to convince me that the Ambush rule should be treated exactly as the same as coming in from Reserves. It's vague in my opinion and I'll play it with the more conservative interpretation. This manner of 'don't follow the rules' has served me very well in the past 20 years of playing 40K.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |

Ghaz is great but only in mechanized lists. It's just not worth slowing down your walking boyz mobs to take him. If you want to use a character to crack out your footsloggers, take Grotsnik, and stick him at the rear of the mob against any army with decent CC. 30 slugga boyz with FNP and possibly cover saves or cybork body (at high enough points) are ridiculous. Generally takes about 136 wounds to take out the mob with shooting if they're in cover.

Fluff wise, Ghaz is in Mega Armor, so he would not be able to "sneak in" the battle in any fashion - he's also gloaty, so he would want to take the enemy head-on.
Fluff =/= rules, but still, attaching Ghaz to Snikrot and ambushing makes zero sense.
Now if you were to use a Warboss that was particularly jealous of Ghaz, and cowardly, and not in Mega Armor, it would make more sense.

If it is legal. It Is LEGAL. Part of the fun of the game is finding powerful combos and weird situations. If you want to go around disparaging people you don't know, and telling people they can't have fun Playing by The Rules of the Game, then I don't know what to tell you.
As for the fluff. Ghaz is the prophet of the whaaargh... He listens to both Gork AND Mork doesn't he? Was he not the planner of some rather sneaky ork tactics at Armageddon?

I face him fairly regularly, and it's very rare I've seen him die... usually the only way I can deal with him is to tarpit him with something that might take him 2 or 3 turns to kill solo, like a Venerable Dread. Most other things he just eats in CC. Add that to his abilties to enhance the rest of your entire army, and the 2+ invulnerable save he gets for 1 turn, and he's almost always worth taking.
