At the moment I'm playing with only a few friends... one friend is space marines and he takes 3 heavy supports and basically kites me around and kills my throapes first round... I am new to playing so... give me a break lol...

To combat his 3 heavy supports I've decided I'm going to build/convert 3 Tyrannofex... I've looked on youtube/here for ideas on what I should do... but so far my husband disagrees with me... he thinks i should make it look like a Hive Gaurd but bigger and him just holding a gun... Where I really want to use trygon/mulloc/carnifex bits and the gun coming out his mouth.... anyone have any suggestions on what would look best?

The tyrannofex is a monsterous creature and needs to be based on the 60mm base. The hive guard uses the 40 mm base and is too small plus the hive guard isn't a monsterous creature. So just sticking a hive guard on a 60mm base wont cut it. Making a larger version of a hive guard would work it would just be a hive guard the size of a carnifex. Every tyrannofex I have seen has been based off of a carnifex, but with added bits and greenstuff jobs to make it bigger. Really designing it is up to you. But building it off of a carnifex is what to do. The trygon body is a good start as it is a bit bigger than a normal carnifex body. As for ideas do a search for tyrannofex in both the gallery and the forums. Some nice conversions will pop up.

Good luck on your conversion

Your hubby's idea would be very cool, but difficult to model.

Using the trygon as a conversion base is a good idea - the central torso is similar to but a llittle bigger than the carnifex, and of course the kit includes the big oval base. The hardest bits will be:
- turning the big snakey tail into a small stubby tail
- what to do about the back legs, as the kit has none (the fex kit does, but they're a bit small for anything bigger than a fex). The simplest option would be to let it walk on spikey talons - not ideal visually but workable enough.

1.) There is a pic in the Codex to guide conversions.
2.) It is more Tervigon sized and I would suggest an oval base, as most Tyrannofex conversions do.
3.) Chapterhouse has just released a Tervigon conversion kit ( http://chapterhousestudios.com/webshop/component/virtuemart/?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=100&category_id=34 ) that can be used as a start,

Here a selection of Tyrannofex conversion threads, mostly a big Carnifex with a big gun:

Just search for Tyrannofex to find more.

I currently use an old Armorcast Exocrine:

That said, using 3 Tyrannofexes is quite a pointsink, never heard of more than one used. Monstrous creatures can crack tanks as well, if Zoanthrops are killed to early.

I've not seen the pic in the 'dex but whenever I've heard the term Tyrannofex it always conjurs up images of a super sized Carnifex, only even more deadly lol. I'd say basing it off one of the Tyranid Monstrous Creatures torsos will make for the simplest conversion.

Yea... but the thing is he WONT change his list this will force him to do something other than sit in his tanks.... its frustrating for ALL our friends.... i seem to be the only one who comes close to beating him....

Kroothawk already posted a link to my finished T-Fex, so I won't post another picture of it, but yeah, make a Carnifex bigger/beefier/bulkier and give it a really big gun. Personally I would mount it on the large oval base like what comes with the Trygon. The theory being that the 4 wound Tyrant and normal Fexes are on the 60mm, while the 6 wound Trygon gets the large oval, so I put my 6 wound Tervigons and T-Fexes on the large ovals as well.

Janthkin made a Tervigon and a T-Fex by combining a Carnifex and a Trygon. Half of each with half of the other. Makes the kit affordable (relatively speaking of course) and looks good.

the second pic shows the gun much better. do you greenstuff all the way to the end of the barrel? anbd by the way, i plan on doing some greenstuff jobs as well, so from one noob to a former noob: is it difficult, did you curse during work alot? or is it doable?
i´ve got some miliput and g´force 9 greenstuff standing to attention, but i´m to hesitant to use it, in case i do a total mess up...

thanks, and good luck and fun with your creations^^

Hated the head... removed it.... started over....

well I do have an art degree so working w/ clay/modeling putty isnt something new to me.. i find it easier to work with after i lick (or dip in water) the tool or green stuff... it does like to stick... or slide on plastic... too wet it slides.. to sticky and well it gets frustrating to work with.. so yes.. i find myself muttering obscenaties under my breath...

Ok, the gun barrel was too long, but the diameter actually worked ok, I liked how it ermerged from the throat.

And your extended torso is fine, but highlights that those standard legs are just far too small for any larger nid creatures (hey, they're barely big enough for the standard fex). Hmm, with a throat weapon. you could even consider a creature walking on six legs? Of course, you still have to build those legs... :(

Wheelz, the body of your Tyrannofex is EXACTLY how I did mine.. I used some barbed stranglers for the gun, looks more natural I think. here is a video of how I built it back in February..

scroll down for the video after pics of the second Tyrannofex, right after I had finished it

I know! I TOTALLY watched it and stole it!! HAHA

On another note...

I made myself a tervigon and put it on 6 scything tallon (sp?) legs.. i feel like if i was to put it on the same it would look a little too similar.. i totally agree that the legs are too small... i might have to sculpt my own.. but im not sure what material to use? green stuff seems a little too.... soft? any ideas????

For something structural like legs, most sculptors build the GS detail over a wire or plastic frame.

Awesome! Really great job, I like the talon legs instead of normal ones. Very spidery.

Only qualm I have is the gun is a little too wide at the end. But that's just me, overall it still looks wicked. Good paint job too.

The tail seems a bit stubby, but that's just me being pedantic. Loving the cannon, very organic.

Not something that I have done, but has anyone considered usiing the Chapterhouse Tervigon as a base?

I own a tervigon and it is MASSIVE.. Resculpt the birthing canals and add a cannon to the top of the carapace.. et voila!

I made in January 2010. I tried my best to make it look like the codex art. He was made from a carnifex and tons of greenstuff. Here is a pic of it and a link to the gallery:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-14732-15136_Tyrannofex.html

Also I made that Chapterhouse kit and I believe a lot of the parts would be a good start for a tyrannofex. Nick wanted me to make a tyrannofex kit as well, but with school I told him my time was really limited.
