Just a quickie for a mate that I started on yesterday in between painting more stunties.

Apart from the assembly and trimming (I just HAD to get the mould lines out of those nooks!) it was really fun to do compared to the usual horsey-elfy stuff, and made me wonder why on earth I didn't start collecting them myself instead of the High Elves that i've got on the go. Oh yeah, HE's meant that I got to paint that frickin sweet Dragon!

The gold looks a little flat in these but is much richer irl, piccies came out a little wierd (I must set up my other lamp again. D'oh). The yellow range on the Cold One's skin is much brighter irl too, and the Khemri base also look a little odd with that backdrop, but it's all gravy on the game board so I don't mind really.

Hope you likey peeps.

Nicely painted but I don't think that purple and bright green fit together.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

Damn, that's awesome! How did you get that green (On the armor, not the lizard thing!), if it's not a pre-made color? Haha!

Absolutely beautiful! How did you get such an iridescent green(on the lizard)? Could you achieve it with yellow glazes?

That's really good. I'm not a big fan of the bright green color on Cold Ones, but you seemed to pull it off pretty well. My favorite part is the base, though. I'm a sucker for good swamp bases.

Thanks guys.

To answer a couple of questions - The green (cold one) was knarloc base, thraka shade, levithon purp shade, liche shade. Camo green, and progressivley more yellow to HL.

Ryan4tor - The armour is just Chainmail shaded with black, glazed with thraka, and then mithril HL. Came as a result of needing to tie in the rider with the mount, same as the purple shading on the Cold one. (And purp is a complimentary of yellow-green).

Edit - nearly forgot to add that there is some orchide shade in the skin shades too.

Wow.......that's hawt.
From the basing to the tip of the spear.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

You mean the black that would look even worse if it didn't have purple on it.

PS. What does "move how" mean? Do you mean "see how"?

Thank you everyone for you comments.

illuknisaa - While I cannot disagree that you don't like the combination of colours, to claim that removing the purple and leaving it just black would be "even worse" is just rubbish.

Firstly it implies that that it is bad in the initial instance, which although the photos lie to some degree this is not the case irl. It looks fine. While I very much appreciate constructive critisism, comments like that (though clearly aimed at Chris's opinion) do your credibilty even less favours than your own painting ability does.

Secondly, black isnt a colour and can therefore not clash with anything, or look 'worse' than anything else. I feel that your issue is with the composition of the piece, one that Chris disagrees with. The GW studio jobs use purple patches on thier cold ones for a good reason, as this ties in the mount and rider better, and mitigates the tonal contrast somewhat. I didn't do this simply because I didn't copy it, and couldn't be bothered to do more purple.

Thirdly, Purple is a complimentary of yellow-green, and though you don't like the effect yourself, the hundreds of positive comments that I have recieved re this mini across the web would disagree that it is a bad choice. I do however agree with your point to some extent, as it was indeed somewhat tricky to harmonise the saturation and hue of the mount and the rider, and tbh it's still doesn't sit 100% with myself either. I could explain at length why it does/doesn't should/shouldn't work, but we would still be here in a months time with your head likely hurting.

Fourthly, if you were to have suggested a way to improve the issues that you dislike then I would gratefully welcome, and gracefully accept them. As it stands, it seems you are simply poking at Chris's inability to express himself clearly.

Fith and finally, this mini was a speedpaint for a friend. Yes, a speedpaint. And while it may appear better than TT standard to many, this is simply the quality that I knock 'em out at without a thought. I'm not really after any serious feedback from a piece that got little effort put in, however I would accept it if posed constructively.

Please don't take this as stirring you up, it is simply meant to help clarify what the situation is with this. I'm actually glad you don't like it, as if you did then we would all have the same tastes, paint the same mini's in the same way, take the same lists to the table etc, and the world would be a very boring place indeed!

So I genuinly thank you for at least having the courage to go against the grain, and speak you mind. Just do it constructively next time please, lest the barrage of responses to your posts go down the same route.

Ta.
