Idk if there is a difference between the propellents really. as long as the pressure doesnt exceed what the gun can handle.

I understand the citadel gun is essentially a Badger. You should have no problem picking up cans of Badger compressed air at your FLGS.
Alternatively, compressors are relatively cheap nowadays - models sold on ebay for cake decorating and temp tatoos for about $50, puts out 15-25 PSI which is just right!

You can get cans for other cheaper sprayguns (the GW one IS just a cheap badger refaced), and the connector is pretty standard.
Go to a hobby shop other than GW and they'll generally have the 'Badger' branded ones for less.

I'd recommend you save up for a compressor eventually as those cans could get expensive if you paint a lot of models and chucking the cans isn't very environmentally friendly

In the long run compressors are most cost effective.

Wouldn't they be so, even for middle-short?
Or do they suffer greatly from re-sale if some decided they would quit at airbrushing?

From what I've seen on ebay - they have a pretty reasonable resale value (if you are talking about the good quality compressors), though this was a cursory glance when I was looking at buying an airbrush.
I've not really looked at how much the nail art and cake compressors are new, so I don't know how much of a discount you will be getting buying second hand.
At £2-5 a can of propellant, you can do a fair bit of spraying for the price of a compressor.

You should definitely get a compressor. It’s cheaper in the long run and you get a constant pressure rather than the changing pressure you get with compressed canned gas.
