So its another less than sunny day in ole Blighty and as ever dakka and lexi have provided me with some entertainment. However whilst trawling their content in the hopes of finding some material for my own army I stumbled upon two entries that have sparked my imagination. Firstly the Adeptus Astra Telepathica and more specifically their Sisters of Silence.

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Sisters_of_Silence
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Adeptus_Astra_Telepathica

The reason I am posting is that in future once my current army has plateaued at a reasonable size I wish to begin work upon a themed Imperial army, previously I have considered Grey Knights, Adeptus Arbites and Adeptus Custodes armies. However this Sisterhood concept intrigues me as their elite nature means that I could produce a limited force at a reasonable points cost to play in smaller games maybe up to 1750pts.

However in my search for background info I have surprisingly not found that many conversions of them out there, in fact I believe only several stills of the same squad. So I would like to ask the community to help me further my research into this concepts viability with any suggestions they may have for this project. Specifically component parts that I could look into or indeed complete miniatures that would offer themselves up to conversion.

Here is some material to give you an idea of what I'm looking for.

If you look around some you can find pics of pretty good Sisters of Silence conversions.

@Amaya - could you please provide links because as I have said all I can find is LordKhaine's work for the warseer forum reposted on other sites.

@killkrazy - sorry mate, but I'm looking more for modelling advice not background info, I have all I need of that from Lexi. Sorry should have said in the move request.

Edit: I started writing up a minidex for the Sisters of Silence. I do not know if I still have it laying around somewhere, but I remember most of it. I also know that there are a few fandexs floating around there if you want me to try and dig them up for you.

I came across those pictures earlier too, I mistook them for the same work as LordKhaine's seems the only two people I can find that have done the sisters at squad level. The only other two images I have are the second link you provided me with and this shot.

http://www.osk.3web.ne.jp/~hasinaka/jenetia.jpg

It certainly is proving to be a hard task finding the same scope of conversions as I did for say the Custodes.

The look I'm wanting to achieve is somewhere in between the two extremes I think not to heavily green-stuffed but also without that eldritch feel that the two squads possess.

So I have been looking through some more miniature ranges and threads of fellow Dakkites and have come across several ideas for the Sisters.

The first idea would use the Dark Elves Corsair box. GS on the cloaks and the torsos, with little change to the legs. The heads for now would be Dark Eldar Warrior heads with the weapons still tbc.

The second idea would use the Deneghra model from Warmachine as a base with heavy GS to the torso and a complete head swap, possibly with a similar model to an Escher ganger.

Feedback is definitely welcome on this one, and if you have any other ideas of minis I could look into to use as a base please let me know.

Yeah thanks Sage already got LK's stuff sussed, not really the feel I want for the project though, a little too eldritch for me.

As to your idea to do female GK's please don't, lol. There really are so many cool concepts out in the land of fluff that you really would be wasting your creative scope.

I've helped you through some of the fluff for your own chapters Sage and sticking boobs on GK termies is far beneath what we both know you're capable of creating.

I'm doing the (exact) same thing, basically.

http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=262181&highlight=sisters+silence

There's a little bit of inspiration. I'm basing mine off Daughters of the Flame from Privateer press, with storm vermin halberds and wrist-mounted bolt pistols. Counts-as GK, but I play them as Witch Hunters too, as a lot of my army consists of WH allies even when playing as DH.

They have to be pre-heresy era in technology, keep that in mind when you model them. Steer clear of actual Grey Knights models, you'll get stomped for doing female marines.

Oh, for GK Termiantor models I just used slightly more heavily armored female knights from Reaper Miniatures, and sci-fi'd them.

Is that your thread? Cos if it is good work, though I must admit to be disappointed that there was no finish model for me to stea..,I mean borrow inspiration from.

As for Reaper minis as GK terminies not a chance for me some of them are perfect for Sisters themselves so thanks to you I shall be pursuing the reaper route a little more to see what I can turn up/ do with them.

Here is one of my starting points, http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/klockenbooty/a-z/02982#detail/02982_G.
The other being the deathcult assassins if I win them (fingers crossed).

Oh and after checking out the Daughters of the Flame they have also been added to the shortlist. Good variety of poses and fairly cheap always makes for a good combo. If you want to post any pictures of your Sisters btw feel free as I think its a topic that really needs a dedicated resource. So the more pictures the better.

For me looking at some of the source artwork, I reckon some decent conversions can be had by kitbashing Dark Eldar (hooray for the soon-to-be-released plastics) WHFB Empire and maybe some ofe those Maxmini Steam Knight heads.

This could be an AWESOME looking force dude. Please tackle this one.

I'm trying but atm its still very much in a development phase, I'm heading to Darksphere and Orcs nest (two FLGS) to get a proper look at some of the miniatures on Friday (which just happens to be payday also, ) From then on I'll have a little bit of a clearer idea of where I need to focus.

In regards to your ideas for the kitbash, they are good but Atm moment I'm not happy with the current Dark Eldar warriors so I really want to stay clear of those. I am however eagerly awaiting the rumoured release of a new Dark Eldar plastics range just to see if there are any options available to me there.

Lets just say my off and on relationship with GW has led me to wait until the model is in the store before I truly believe them, lol.

Is there a release date yet do you know because some of the legs and heads are actually the most perfect shapes for this project. Especially that reaver jetbikers head.

Ah for fraks sake November thats ages away, lol.

Like I said I'm still actively pursuing other avenues as well most notably Reaper minis and deathcult assassins with Daughters of the Flame providing a back route. but I am very tempted to incorporate some of the DE minis as well now since I think it fair to say they have come a very long way from the soon to be oop DE minis.

Fear not dear boy,

November will be upon us before your pipes can freeze and you can find out the local authority has sold all of it's grit to third parties

Just to check these are the same chap'ess' that dave taylor did for a tourney a few years back? cos' I've heard he's going to sell them for a good cause; so if you've got a few grand/liver-kidney combo or the soul of your first born to offer up.......

Presumably using them in an official GW tourney doesn't bother you so plunder those other miniature providers.

Tourney play isn't even on the agenda, hell atm playing isn't even there, I've not actually played since 2nd edition in fact. They just look like a great little side project to help me improve my GS-Fu and the fluff ain't bad to boot.

Not sure on the Dave Taylor front, and definitely have neither a spare kidney or child's soul at hand to offer

The project will really be about pushing my skills further and allowing me a break from marines (150 guys in PA just ain't fun, I don't care how many little extra purity seals are on them).

For play I'm going to try a few games out but I'm currently looking into WM for my gamer fix

Not stealing this thread but I believe the cause is worthy and deserves a mention so here is Dave's Legio Custodes army on ebay (and my guess about the starting price was accurate)

worth a look even if its just for ideas.

Thanks for the link Dances, its really is an awesome army. I think that's one of the first things you have to decide when doing this kind of project how far do I go? What sort of cost per mini am I willing to extend to? Though Dave has obviously gone to a huge amount effort for this project some little things just don't seem right, mainly the use of MKVII armour is a little off the fluff for me. Obviously this was necessary given the fact that he had chosen to complete an entire army.

For me I'm looking more to complete 2 x 5 squads with possibly a Character at the end, as I said for me this project is really about pushing my sculpting skills further than just GS gap filling. I'm very lucky to be in contact with several very talented individuals and obviously to have access to sites such as Dakka.

In regards to the project I spent yesterday trawling through central London in the rain. I managed to check a fair few of the ranges I wanted to. Unfortunately the models I did come across either seemed too small or their poses were too 'closed' to allow for easy conversion. I will carry on searching and possibly pick up a test mini to trail some techniques on. In all honesty though the DE minis are calling to be converted for the cause.

Thanks for all your feedback so far guys, keep it coming, if you have any ideas for component parts or you just come across the coolest SoS conversion let me know. Thanks
