I kind of have a problem painting detail. Mostly, no matter how hard I search for a good detail brush, I cannot find one that holds a fine point with anything but very thick paint. As soon as I water the paint down, the brush fills up and the point is gone. Considering thick paint is a nightmare to do details with, I just can't do it.

I've got a few GW detail and fine detail brushes, and while they are good in general, they suffer from the same problem above that cheaper brushes have. Anyone have any tips on paint consistency for detail work?

I haven't tried it yet, but I've thought about using colored art pens to do some detail work. see how well that works out.

Dunno how well it would work, but it might be worth a shot.

I use either Raphael (8404 or 8408) or Winsor&Newton Series 7 brushes... and for fine detail I almost always use a size 0. This is where you really see that 'you get what you pay for'... because the points are so nice on these brushes.

I have a zillion smaller brushes, but they are just too difficult to manage when it comes to loading up paint, for me anyway.

I found some cheap brushes at the Michaels craft store... Synthetic ; White Nylon big yellow package... 1.50 US.

They might not last as long as some of the other brushes, but at 1 dollar 50 cents I don't care....

In most cases I find a 30/70 to 50/50 paint to water mix (with citadel paints) works fine for me with their own brushes or the army painter brushes, your not over loading your brush are you ? I find less paint on the brush works well for me but that's just me.

I try not to overload the brush. I had a good result when I changed from a detail brush to a fine detail brush. The detail brush swelled with any amount of paint.
