Here is a simple addition that I would LOVE to see added:
At the end of the year, should the user who has the most suspensions in a 12 month period, automatically get perma banned from the site?
It would stand to reason, that if someone is constantly suspended for their actions over and over cause they can't/refuse to change, that the community as a whole would be better off without them and their trolling/spamming/arguments/rudeness ect ect (whatever the case may be).
Mods seem to have a very hard time justifying removing even blatant trolls, spammers, and just all around idiot trouble makers from the site for some reason. This would, in my eyes, set a more solid baseline to go off of that is very fair and unbiased. After all, you can appeal your suspension to Yakface himself if you so feel inclined to do so. And 12 months is a very generous timeline to change your ways.
Something needs to be done, And this would be a good start.

According to the poll you're referencing, OP, 59% say either it's the same as ever or they don't care and they ignore the things that doesn't interest them.
On the other hand, incentive to not be banned isn't a bad thing. I don't really think it would change much.

If you look at the poll, it actually breaks down like this (and remember part of it was tongue in cheek, anyway):
37% Ignore what doesn't interest them / don't care about the general state
33% Think it is either the same or better than ever
29% Think it is worse than ever
So I'm not sure how the poll supports this thread...

This would be a good start.
A good start to what? When you have a user base this size, how is removing one more person going to make a change? Are these serial offenders _really_ a problem? What exactly are you basing the conclusion off of?

There are a few people on the site who haet a few other people on the site.
Permanent suspensions are rare on Dakka because the moderators take it very seriously.
Just automatically suspending the bottom 10% isn't a viable solution.

I love it. But that would pretty much remove the Mods, and most of our top posters.
Alternatively we could set up TBone's List of Doom (top ten posters who have annoyed his minion Frazzled and now deserve to die). For a cheap fee denominated in bacon, I'm sure TBone would even delete the account for us.

Ah, but this system would leave any personal feelings out of it, and isn't "automatically suspending" the bottom 10%. Just the worst user that dakkadakka produces each year. Nobody is forceing any user here on Dakka to get themselfs suspended over and over again other then him/herself.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, vote away people, I am curious to see what Dakka in general thinks.
