Just curious:

Which language can you speak?

Which is your native language?

If you could, which language would you like to learn? Why?

Do you plan to learn a language?

I am native in german, and trying to speak english.
A bit of Latin and a tiny bit of French.

I am just trying to learn a bit Mandarin, but I think Russian or Japanese would be more interesting.

i voted for Hebrew, i like the sound of that language and i´m a bit attached with jews and Isreal. Also it has a real cool writing language. but to tell the truth i´m to lasy to begin with.

i might have opted for other langueages as well, cause i like to learn more one day (probably when i´ve retired...) but your poll di´dn´t had the options...

Started learning Chinese in school, but never finished it... perhaps I can go back to it one day.

I won't bother.

Interesting.

Besides, multiple choices should be possible.

Mandarin is the only one I've started (well got one of those dodgy casette books from the library a good while back) although part of me also considers Japanese.

Think my mind might melt if I tried to learn both.

I learned some Arabic when I was in the Marines, I'd like to become fluent.

Japanese would be cool too, but that's only so I could order sushi with more nuance, I guess. Can't really think of a practical application for it around these parts.

I plumped for 'European other' with a veiw to speaking Polish. I have just started working on building sites, and there are a lot of Polish lads labouring (amongst other Eastern European types), not only do I think it would be useful for explaining more involved tasks but it would be good to understand what they are talking about when they all get together at break, probably nothing too flattering!

I'm pretty sure basically anyone who knows anything at all about Spanish knows it comes from Spain. The close proximity of Mexico to the United States just gives most people in the U.S. a more pertinent reason to learn Spanish than comparatively far-off Spain, hence the more common Mexican-centric Spanish marketing in the U.S.

I can speak Spanish.

English is my native language.

I can also speak a little German, French, Italian and Dutch - I would really like to improve upon those. I really don't think it would take much to get them up to scratch, especially French and Italian, given their similarity to Spanish.

I would really like to learn Urdu.

Well, I already have GCSE A* grades in Latin and French, I used to learn German and Spanish, although only the present tense...

I would like to learn chinese though, as it is a very important language in engineering worldwide. (and it would mean that I would be able to understand what the Boarders are chatting about when they talk in further maths class )

I'm at the point where I need to do some serious time in the Levant in order to achieve full fluency. Right now, while I can generally get something intelligible out, it takes a couple minuted of thinking for it to happen.

I'm trying to learn Japanese, but it's hard to find time among school work. Although I admit it's mainly so I can watch anime better - some series just don't have very good (if any) translations for text that appears on-screen. It makes Excel Saga impossible to watch, since it seems like 80% of the humor is found in the jokes in text.
