Land raider
Defiler
We rolled up a battle mission and got the implacable advance. This mission you split the board in 3 and have 3 objectives placed in the center of each section. Deployment is in one of the sections from the short side of the board, up to 24” in. when you hold an objective uncontested for a turn it’s considered “secured” and you will hold it even if the troop moves away, you can only lose control if the enemy secures it. This means you can’t do late turn’s contesting with vehicles, as you need troops to take away objectives.
Extra special rule is that no units can outflank.
I won the roll off and deployed on the left side leaving land speeders in deep strike,
(Some of the pictures turned up very blurry, but they should give you an idea where things are)
In this picture I have started moving my land raiders
Since I could not use outflank, I infiltrated my scouts instead
Space wolves turn 1
In my first turn I start by shooting a little with my land raiders immobilizing his backfield rhino. I move and shoot with my scouts on the daemon prince only doing one wound, one squad is in charge range so assaults him
In assault I lost 4 scouts and takes another wound on the prince
Chaos turn 1
His shooty dreadnought goes crazy and runs forward against my lines, his plague marines disembark from the immobilized rhino readying their bolters on my scouts,
The rest of his army holds their ground,
His shooting does nothing on my raiders, and his plague marines only killed two scouts, yey!
In assault he fears my shooting so elects to not use warptime, so he can stay locked in assault, he only kills the last scout leaving the wolf guard left, he takes another wound on the prince, and he is left standing with one wound,
Space wolves turn 2
(We both got a little confused about the turns in this game, and the effect is I forget to roll for my deep strikers this turn)
Land raiders advance and claim the center objective, (the hydra emplacement)
My scouts only rolls 2 on their terrain test, and I end up being “maybe” at the edge of 6” from the daemon prince,
I decide I will most likely not reach and assault the plague marines after shooting down one, I knew it was an assault I would not win, but it was better than being gunned down,
In assault his prince kills the wolf guard, and the scouts takes down another plague marine at the loss of the wolf guard and 3 scouts,
Chaos turn 2
The chaos player goes for the push, advancing with the raider, lash prince, and defiler, and plague marines covering the rear,
In his shooting phase he fail to kill the raider, only shaking it, so he runs his possessed into the emplacement,
In assault the two remaining scouts kills another plague marine, while suffering no losses
Space wolves turn 3
Land speeders does not arrive
The two raiders with large squads disembarks them, while the other land raider advance forward,
The 2
ccw dread looses a
ccw too shooting
With shooting and assault the top squad kills the lash prince with the loss of two grey hunters
The rune priest and his squad not doing so well, killing 3 possessed with the loss of three grey hunters
The scouts drag down another plague marine, but the scouts die leaving 3 plague marines left,
Chaos turn 3
His one wound prince fly up to support the possessed, as do the dread, his defiler lines up for a shot and assault on the grey hunters that decapitated the lash prince
His melta squad moves and disembark, readying their meltas on the rune priest land raider
His meltas explode the land raider, his defiler kills 5 grey hunters with battle cannon, and kills the rest in assault,
His possessed, daemon prince and dread kills the entire squad including the rune priest, at the loss of two possessed,
Space wolves turn 4
Well this is starting to look grim, losing two squads this turn really hurt, now I just need to keep contesting the center objective and I can still win this,
Both land speeders arrive, one the landing pad, and one close to the defiler
The raider with the small squad disembarks them and they go after the plague marines, they only roll 3” on their difficult terrain leaving them longer away from them, then I hoped,
The land raider pivots to bring all weapons to bear against the one wound prince, the last raider moves to contest the center objective,
Flaming from the last grey hunter squad kills a single plague marine, fire from the land raider kills the prince, one land speeder kills the defiler, and the last raider take away the last
ccw from the dread and stuns him,
The grey hunters roll another 3” for assault, and does not reach,
Chaos turn 4
His possessed move against my grey hunters, and his plague marine’s advance against the objective, his backfield plague marines advance going for the land speeder on the landing pad,
His shooty dread kills one speeder, while the other plague marine squad kills the other speeder in assault, he actually forgets to shoots his meltas at my
raider assaulting it instead doing immobilizing it,
His possessed charge and kills the wolf guard and one grey hunter, loosing nothing in return,
Space wolves turn 5
Well, now I basically only have two raiders left, so now I can only hope I can contest the center objective and that the game ends now,
The other raider moves to contest the center objective, and both fires at the plague marines killing another one leaving 5
The possessed kill another grey hunter while suffering no losses,
Chaos turn 5
He fire his melta squad killing the immobilized raider, while his possessed kills another grey hunter losing a possessed on return,
We roll the dice, and turn 6 starts,
Space wolves turn 6
The single land raider kill another plague marine, and in the assault with the possessed nothing happens
Chaos turn 6
His melta squad kills the last raider, while in the assault I lose another grey hunter, and the last one flees,
Game ends,
Massacre to chaos!
(had more pictures, but there was a picture limit, so had to take away some.)
After thoughts
Well that did not go entirely after plan, being wiped out is never a good thing.
I did learn lots in this game, first that I really need more experience with raiders, I probably should have been more defensive since I had the long range
advantage.
He only had 1 squad with meltas and i allowed it to kill 3 raiders, so i should have prioritised better.
I also need to remember to roll for reserves, getting those speeders inn a turn earlier could have been game changing, killing the defiler before it killed an entire squad would have been nice.
I need to send my wolves on terrain training, failing two assaults because of difficult terrain was very bad.
His possessed were damn ard! even if they rolled up "scout"
Anyway, I’m not ready to give up on this army yet. As I Feel it “should” work, so I will keep trying until it do.
Any tips on what i should have done is greatly apriciated.
