Ive just recently started playing Warhammer fantasy. I went for a Skaven army, and taking a block of 50 slaves in a 1000 point force.

I was wondering what peoples thought were on this idea. They will benefit from the horde rule but is it risky?

They will be armed with slings and shileds.

The reason i gave them the slings was so they had a shooty option. 40 stones flying at you I know most of the time they hit on 7s but if they stand and shoot it could come in handy. I still need to play test em more. Also my army is Roman themed so this seemed to fit.

I do take a naked warlock with them aswell for leadership.

The clanats are going to be my Roman line infantry though. The slave are more like a cross between a slave, and auxiliary. The auxiliaries were normally recruited from Romans that did not hold a Roman citizenship. Also Barbarian tribes that had been conquered. Skaven slave are quite similar, they can be relay anything from a scrawny rat to a captured elf. Each tribe would probably have had there own fighting styles and weapons.

The Shields i always take. 1 for the same reason as you and 2 They are modeled on my slave.

I would not underestimate the slings though. I was charged by sword masters and managed to kill 2 on stand and shoot reaction. that is 30 points, were the slings cost me 25 points to outfit my 50 slaves with them.

I got 4 sets of 20 clan rats on ebay for around £8 each set.
