Not a rules question as such, but a proxy question.

I'm changing all my Wave Serpents to EML. I've only got 1.5 pairs of EMLs but got loads of starcannons. If I made all my Serpents with starcannons so all the same visual setup but said they're EML would you have a problem?

Well... from a RaW standpoint, the Eldar codex is the only one that you must have WYSIWYG on all models... so RaW, No, you can't do that!

However, I would not have a problem so long as ALL the Starcannons are EML.

All starcannons on all transports would be EML.

What Gwar! said. The Eldar codex is bitchy since it's the only one that actually requires WYSIWYG. So as far as the rules are concerned, you can't do it.

However, like you said, you're being consistent, so from a practical standpoint, I wouldn't have a problem with it, and neither would anyone else I know.

Yup. Every single "starcannon" will be EML in the army.

Proxy isnt really a problem as long as its coupled with clarity before the game.

As an aside to Gwar or SaintHazard, where does it say in the Eldar codex that everything must be WYSIWYG? Ive just started an army of the space elves and dont want to upset any potential opponents?

Friendly games you won't really have an issue. If you are playing in a tourney clear it first.

I would consider it pretty unfriendly not to clear it up before any game, tournament or otherwise...

Interestingly enough, Starcannon is the only heavy weapon that's got a diagram showing what it looks like in the codex. For the full set you have to go to page 71 where the Biel-Tan army colour scheme is presented.

90% of people wont be able to tell the difference, go for it.

I have some Starcannons and some EML on my models, but not enough EML to put everywhere I want. Which would generally be considered more acceptable:

1) Have a mix of weapons, some Starcannon, some EML, and say all SC and EML count as EML

2) Only field Starcannons and say they all count as EML

Id go with using as many EML as you can then proxying as few starcannons as possible but thats my preference. As long as your opponent understands and is ok with whats going on its all good

I'd say that even if your opponent understand that "these two weapon models are EML", it is still confusing and during the course of a game it'll lead to memory lapses even if it is unintentional. Just stick with one model as your EML, and do remember that that opponent might make the assumption NEXT game that the same models are EML (so don't lie about them being proxies).

They do, and I got them new, not used. But, I got them in 3rd Edition, when the Starcannon was king of the Eldar weaponry. And, I didn't save enough of the EML to convert everything.

But as fas using starcannons as EML I wouldnt care at all, but the thing is im sure someone would at some point.

It wouldn't bother me a bit, as long as you're clear about it.

Maybe you can do some converting so that they're easily recognizable as something other than Starcannons?

Question: do you have any leftover Dark Reaper guns?
