My daughter discovered all my old Star Wars happy meal (kids meal?) toys from Episode 3, she's taken to learning everyones name.... Princess A-lea.... Darth Mater.... and Skuwalker. lol
Its cute.... she is 3, and I am extra proud.... she found the toys on her own, i did not force them on her. makes me proud!

In other news though, Star Wars in 3D starting 2012... with episode 1 and then every year following the next episode. George trying to make more money?

When I heard the announcement that Star Wars 3D was coming in 2012, I finally became a believer. The world really is going to end.

George Lucas was my hero when I was 10. My how things change.

Yea. Man Star Wars was cool back when I was a little kid. Once at the library I found a retro book basically about the fluff of planets in Return of the Jedi.

Wow. Nothing in the new trilogy is even a tenth as cool as this. Was what I thought.

I've sold so many armies. :(

I have always loved the Wars, and yeah not a huge fan of Ep 1-3, but I was still there, opening day(s). I am looking at this as 6 chances to get out the Jedi Robes, polish off the lightsaber (yeah... i said that... let phallic jokes ensue) and hang out with like minded nerds. As much as i hate Lucas for practically ruining it all..... Star Wars i can not replace.

This is kind of upsetting, actually. There's no reason to make these in 3D, none at all. The only reason it's happening is to make more cash and to jump on the 3D bandwagon thats been so popular lately. Star Wars was an epic saga all on its own, and does not need flashy new trends to change that. All thats going to happen is the series is going to be cheapened by the addition of this useless crap. The series does not need more of this kind of stuff. (I'm looking at you, Clone Wars.) But, if George Lucas wants to whore out the very thing that made him what he is today, the thing that is the subject of adoration from millions, is the most popular movie franchise in history, has one of the largest fan bases on the planet, and is one of the best things ever conceived, then I guess there's nothing I can do to stop him.

I find it interesting, because I'm pretty sure he wasn't going to redo them for Blu-Ry (presumably because there wouldnt be enough money in it) but hes willing to redo them for 3D, which will mean another shot at the box office

And see thats the problem... its his. he can do whatever he wants.... he wanted it to be the best with the best tech out there, he did that the first time around... then he felt like tech was better and he wanted a "re-do". So now that 3D tech is so good and is being marketed as "the best" it's only logical that eventually Star Wars would follow suit.

And it's precisely that reasoning that pisses me off. He shouldn't ruin a classic series by releasing it in 3D. It's like "A Wonderful Life, Now in full color, 3D, with surround sound!" It's not ok. The timeless air of movies like that is what made them great, not the amazing cinematography. Star Wars does not need this, and it saddens me that some folks think otherwise.

This is the same guy who said he would never release the original trilogy on Blu-Ray becuase it would be to expensive. Apparently remastering all the crappy ones for 3D is cost like a buck fifty.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Maybe because my first Star Wars movie was Phantom menace, but I really don't understand the hate for the prequels. (Except Jar-Jar. That's reasonable.)

I do hate the messed up scenes tho. HAN SHOT FIRST DAMMIT!

Also, I was excited to hear they were making a clone wars movie. I saw it, and was very dissappointed. I was expecting it to be like the shorts on Cartoon Network.

Ya know, GOOD.

I like the original three movies a whole lot. Even then it ended a little weak, with that whole Ewok thing.

The prequels were pretty bad, I enjoyed the last one but there's no denying it was bad. The cartoon I found forgettable, the EU books are awful and the rest of the merchandise is, well, merchandise. The West End Games rpg was pretty sweet, though. Played a lot of that while I was at uni.

But despite all that bad stuff, the original movies are still the same,* they could make them in 4D and it wouldn't change my ability to go home and watch the originals.

*Well, except that they changed them with Greedo shooting first and all that. feth that, give me my original cinema release.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. Some one once explained why the original trilogy was good, and the prequels sucked so bad. The original 3 was about rebels, and star fights and every spoke like Americans. The prequels were about politics, over done fighting and Brits. Though I like you fellas over the pond, the rest was pretty damn true.

The prequels are so damn boring (specially episode 2, dear god, its like watching the parliament channel) and they just cheapen EVERYTHING! The fight scenes are OMFGWTF over the top. He even managed to take Yoda, you know the all powerful Jedi master from the originals, and turned him into a guy that NEVER WON A FIGHT EVER! in the prequels....hows that happen? I mean, even my fav Sith, Darth Maul, was KO'ed by a oh cmon moment. He took both Gui con and Obi Wan at the same time with little effort, killed Gui Con, and totally had Obi Wan on the ropes. Then for some un known reason, STOPS wanting to kill and just stands there, as a padawan jumps from like 15 feet below him, super flips OVER Darth Maul while grabbing a light saber in air,lands....THEN cuts him in half? Thats just AWESOME GEORGE!

Also I watched a video once of Lucas actually watching Episode 1 before releasing it, and he looked so horrified at what he had done. You could hear him saying he actually did WAY to much towards the end and it was confusing. CONFUSING! For the guy that thought that gak up, was confusing. Yet, he made it even worse the 2nd time around.

ok I could rant more but Ill stop

BTW congrats on having a proud daddy moment. My son took to StarWars pretty hard as well. Infact when he was like 1 1/2 years old I dressed him as Darth Vader, and he could kindda make words at the point. And I asked him what his name was, Darth what? And he would ALWAYS say Dadadaaaa. So to this day my wife and I joke about him being Darth Dadadaaa. Hilarious

The process of turning a 2D movie into a 3D one is going to get ugly. Thankfully Eps 1-3 were 95% CG and unless they deleted everything it should be relatively simple to 3d-ize the thing and not have it look like gak. Then you get to 4-6 and it was all shot in 2D. You're going to wind up with the cardboard cutout looking 3D rather than the seamless depth of an Avatar style 3D.

The ONLY time I liked that trick, was the 3D episode of Home Improvement. When Tim was moving that board back and forth until he smashed the camera. That made me laugh.

Same, one for me was the weakest, Maul almost saved it, then we saw how he died and tears of nerd rage where wept.

However I really liked two, and I thought three was better than a New Hope, just behind Return of the Jedi, while Empire is out in front overall.

However I dread to think on what he's going to do this time.. Greedo and three mates jump Han in the bar, give him a good kicking, and Han shoots Greedo weaping tears of pain for the sin he's had to commit.

Maybe that South Park episode wasn't too far from the truth, with Indi down, he's obviously returning his eye to Star Wars.

Why he didn't just get off his butt and do 7-9 for his 3-D fix is beyond me. Would have been much more warmly recieved.

My wife is from Japan and has never seen the films. So far I've gotten her to sit through SW and Empire. Keep in mind English is her second language and she's seeing them under duress but she remembers the characters as 'blond hero' 'princess' 'the dog' gold robot' 'yogi' and as of the end of Empire 'frozen man'.

But then again she did turn to me halfway through SW and say 'I bet his father isn't really dead' so she'd doing a lot better than I did when I first saw them.

Did you ever see the comic where Maul comes after Obi Won on Tatueen? He a cyborg lower half and huge horns. It's even better than the re-con that got Boba Fett back.

Best thing about Star Wars is that even though George Lucas 'made it', other people have made the most important contributions.

Addedum- while Kit's accent is cool they did manage to make Jar Jar an even more offensive stereotype and ruin him as a comic relief character.

In the one I'm watching now he just got several people killed through his idiocy, fun is fun but how can we now laugh at him?

I'm pretty much in the same boat. Episode 1-3 are not bad summer blockbusters as taken on their own. They generally aren't as good as the originals(although I liked Ep.3 over Ep.6),but they're still solid offerings and set the stage for the original trilogy. However,to many fans, nothing will ever rival the originals, and they'll never be satisfied with any Star Wars flicks ever again.

I'm not geeked for Star Wars 3D,but at the same time, there's just something about watching Star Wars in the theater that you just can't get watching at home.

You also have to remember that Lucas pretty much did a dry run with CGI effects when he rereleased the Star Wars Special Editions in the theatres, then used that experience to help him make the prequel trilogy. This pretty much sounds like the same thing. He's going to redo 1-6 in 3D to get a handle on the technology, then incoorporate it into eventually making 7-9.

The only one of the movies that would look good in 3D would be the third one. The other ones are just poinless. I've gotten close enough to Jar Jar thanks.

While I wasen't around when 4-6 was released I did grow up watching the movies and am a huge fan of the series as well as the expanded universe. I even like episodes 1-3 but that may be because of my age, the cartoons where awesome but honestly I didn't like the CGI ones. I was also a big fan of Star Wars Galaxies before that got screwed up.

But making the movies in 3D is a mistake, the last thing I saw in 3D was the Shrek show at Universal Studios Florida and I think it should stay that way. When my fiance wanted to go see the 3D Avatar instead of 2D my foot went down faster then a Hutt on Biggest Loser.
