Well although I am very sure there has already been a Mantic Orc topic before, mind as well squish them together in one nice little topic. Mantic Games has been either hasty or secretive about their orcs since all we have to go off of is a test shot from months ago. Only other info we got from them is some more pics of really rough drafts I assume.

and the newest stuff from here http://www.brueckenkopf-online.com/?p=22295

Moving on to out dear friends at Wargames factory

This one is our Orc friend about to skewer someone with his nasty, double-headed spear-slash-halberd!

The arms are set for this position - but can be configured to have him holding it at an upward angle to rank up nicely in units.

This particular figure is 7 parts - 2 arms, head, spear, torso, legs, and sword scabbard.

Moving on to test shots (they've been a bit quick I have to say, they shown their 3D stuff beginning of Sept and moved right along)

Last I heard its going to be 24 figs for them a box

Mantic has been very tightlipped about their orcses. They look ace.

Mantic orc I dare say I would most definately pick up as they produce quality. Saddly those orcs from wargames factory lack definition and really are sub par. I wish they would stick to working on one line at a time.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

I don't understand the criticism of the WF orcs - the live shot with the 3 assembled figures displays a lot of detail/definition. I'd need to see them live before I would compare them to GW - but they seem to be on par with what Mantic is producing these days. From a style point of view, they are much more Lord of the Rings than GW football player - a considerable improvement in my eyes.

The two lines are very different, but I like them both. Mantic looks like it'll have a good line, from the parts I can see. Although I don't normally go for WF, I really like the unique style their orcs have.

The test shot with a closeup of the faces is, I hope, poor photography, because they badly lack definition and look too smooth without sharp detailing. However, all the other accessories look fine, so I rather do suspect it's just a bad picture.

I really, really like the thinner proportions of the WF orcs. I can dig some Orcs that don't all look hulking. Much more Tolkein. It's nice to see a line of plastics that follow that thread as opposed to the GW orc style, which has already been done so well elsewhere.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

WGF's orc models are fine detail-wise, though I think the psuedo-ashigaru helmet is a pointless addition. The upright stance is a bit of a surprise that I would honestly have to get used to, but I like that they're not following GW mindlessly.

I think my problem is that they are going their own way, and at the moment they don't have their look nailed down. I know what an orc is for GW. I know what an orc is for Tolkein. I know what an orc is for Earthdawn. I don't know what these guys are yet. At the moment, they look like lumpy people with bad dental hygiene and an eclectic fashion sense. I need to see them develop the line as a whole before I can decide if I like them or not.

Looks like the camera focused on the sprue plane.
The ears are in sharp focus too, so it looks like a shallow depth of field.

Not overly keen on the Wagames Factory at this stage, but top marks for the different style.
It is the poses that is putting me off, but some of the accessories looked nice.

Will be interesting to see how they develop and some better pics.

Actually I don't mind the Ashigaru helm too much. But it jars a bit. Not sure if that is due to my own preconceptions

The WF orcs remind me more of hobgoblins, though that's no doubt years of D&D influencing that. Still, they look good. Mantic's stuff though, in short, I can't wait.

That is not a bad call actually Neconlis

Don't think Hobgoblins are in the current GW army book
but they are in the Chaos Dwarf book

Ditto Mantic Orcses.

I'm really glad to see other companies coming out with quality Fantasy plastics. GW's had something of a stranglehold on that market for a while now.

Other than their Elves, I've really liked Mantic's work, and I'm eager to see how their Orcs turn out.

The Wargames Factory Orcs are more in the style of those found in the LotR movies, which appeals to me since I love that aesthetic. I picked up a lot of GW Mordor Orcs to use as Hobgoblins in my Chaos Dwarf army, and I'm looking forward to snagging some WGF Orcs for the same purpose (though at this point, I'm more likely to use them for a new gaming project entirely).

Perhaps they'll be in plastic but odds are stacked 2 to 1 for elite armored infantry (palace guard and ironguard vs revenants)

Huh. Guess I'll go with the Undead after all. Kinda looks like a Kroot Shaper to me, I'm just not digging it.

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

In this shot, the mask (face?) looks kind of krootish and isn't too clearly separated from the helmet's cheek protectors. That lends it a more beak-like appearance than the traditional underbite.

I suspect this is merely a problem of the mixed materials and a bad angle.
