So after running off topic a bit in this thread because of a mini-battle report I gave, I decided to create this topic.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/320046.page

Basically the question is: "can the Monolith become immobilized, then wrecked via weapon destroyed results"?

The Guass Flux Arc is the only weapon listed under the Monolith's weapon profile, and it states that it has 6 shots. So, if you get weapon destroyed 6 times, you effectively destroy it.

Then, you have the particle whip, which does not have a weapon profile, and is an ability, meaning it doesn't ever count towards the WD result.

Since it hasn't been FAQed, what do you guys think?

You never actually destroy the Gauss Flux, you only reduce the number of shots it can take to zero.

Ergo - you cannot destroy the monolith with a WD result or multiple immobilized results.

actually Raw the Gauss flux adds a shot.

personally i play that if you some how manage that many "immobilized"/"weapon destroyed" results its dead ...but thats just the local house rule.

Pfft - only if you believe in the rules of mathematics (for the record he is referring to reduce the number of shots by -1 that is written in the dex, which means add 1 shot those double negatives!)

No, you cannot destroy a monolith through immobilsed / weapon destroyed results. You can never destroy the main weapon, nor the flux arcs - it also isnt 6, its D6 from memory.

Actually, the particle whip does have a weapons profile in the armoury section of the necron codex.

And yes, nos, it's D6.

It doesn't matter that it has a profile, you cannot destroy it because of its special rules.

So no, Liths can NEVER be glanced to death.

If I can recall the ruling of my bro's necron book, it (approximately) states that destroying a weapon reduces the number of shots the gauss guns shoot by one. It never states that you can't get a negative number on a roll

Except getting a Glance 6 with an AP1 weapon?

@dkelly
Just like Melta, AP 1 does not work on Monoliths

The only advantage you'll get is by using Ordnance - then you get to roll 2D6 and pick the highest.

AP1 definitely works on monoliths. Ordnance does too.

AP1 does work on Liths, why on earth do you think it doesn't?

Incorrect. It states you never get additional dice for penetration, however it never states you cannot get bonuses to the damage result chart.

This is a common mistake.

That is not getting two dice for penetration. At no time do you add the dice together. You roll two six sided dice and pick the highest and that is your single damage dice to add to the strength of the attack.

Edit: Yup, misread the point. Disregard.

I need to start reading the codices for other armies and stop relying on other people

Given the AP1 bonus to damage didnt exist when the codex was written, that should have given you a clue

While you're at it...does Tank Hunters work on 'Liths? It's adding to the Strength of the roll, but nowhere does it state that the strength of the weapon cannot be modified, only that any weapon that would count Monolith armor as below its intended value does not do so.

Tank Hunters doesn't work.

You roll Strength + D6 NO MATTER WHAT!

Aha, re-reading the rule more carefully, I see where I was mistaken. It adds to AP and not S of the squad. Thanks for clearing it up.

Tank hunters does work, I see no reason why it wouldn't. TH adds to your armour penetration roll, it doesn't substract from the Armour Value of the lith.

Did you read my post?

Did you read the rule?

Is Strength + D6 + 1 the same as Strength + D6?

No, so you don't get it. You always roll Strength + D6 vs the Monolith, NO MATTER WHAT (it even says NO MATTER WHAT in the codex).

Where? Pg 21 Living metal special rule? Sorry but, there's no sign of "no matter what" in my codex...

That rule only exludes Lance like effects and additionals D6's.

Hmm...actually, I just phoned my friend that plays Necrons. He cited me the rule word-by-word...it indeed nowhere states that you never get any bonus to AP, just that you don't get bonus AP dice. As far as I can tell, Tank Hunters don't give bonus dice.

...In practice, any weapon attacking the Monolith will roll for armour penetration using its unaugmented strength and a single D6 no matter what.

Make sure you have the second edition Necron codex.
