hello dakka,

well it´s finally autum here in good old germany with a hint of things to come...

recently i talked with my wife about our christmas presents we would give to eych other...

to make a long story short it seems she wants to buy me a landraider kit...

so here is the big question:

i´m a bit still new to 40k and thats why i have to ask which kit should we buy?

the redeemer one or the normal one?

i think that the forgeworld kit is out of the question...

our limit is pretty far overstretched as it is with a gw kit...

so i will give this as a request for help to you fair people...give me a hint^^

thanks in advance, yours viktor

Do you want it to have fun painting or for playing?

if its for painting only/mostly I'd go with the Redeemer..

If its for playiing, what kind of army are you running?

well i play a DA related SM army called the earthangels...

got my own blog named after my chapter...take a look and see^^

for now the fun is only in the painting, but one day i want to play, but only with a fiully painted force...

as for the playing part, what are the main differencies?

what would i be missing either way?

Depends what you are looking for. For anti-tank get the normal one. For anti-infantry get the Redeemer/Crusader kit. I personally swear by the Redeemer, with its flamers of death and additional multi-melta! Seeing as the tanks are basically all the same (painting wise) it doesn't matter which you get.

I say land raider crusader!
(I've never played a game but) It chews up infantry, and with the added multimelta can do additional damage.

welll we see, cant possibly say what kind of game would come up, so its still tough to decide...

ever since i played DOW and got one of these babies i fell in love...^^

did anyone used a chaos one for a sm chapter? i mean there would be more options then for decorations or am i mistaken...

i sometimes mix the two styles of the different marine armies and i like some parts of chaos more than vanila ones... but i refuse to play chaos...

Buy the Redeemer kit and magnetize the sponsons and posts. Save up money for an additional frame of the lascannons and magnetize them too. It's not that hard to so and you will like the flexibiilty of being able to change out weapons.

i totally agree that it is worth to be able to change weapon systems... although i don´t know if my modeling abilities are up to that job...well until i will get my hands on any landraider kit i have plenty of work with a predator and a rhino to finetune my know how...^^

so far thanks to all that lend me their "ears" as to help me with this decision...

or you could get the regular Land Raider, and then the redeemer/crusader upgrade sprue, and have both sets to play around with and magnetize...

No matter what you do, don't pick either one with the idea of making interchangeable sponsons via bitz:

A land Raider of any flavor regularly sells for $40 or so on Ebay. Let's say you pick up a vanilla land raider. Now you will want the Crusader bitz pack, and the redeemer sponsons off ebay. The crusader bitz pack is $20, and the redeemer sponsons are $10 + $3 shipping. At this point, you are at 85% of the cost of a second (complete) land raider, which gives you the option of swapping around magnetized sponsons OR using them both at the same time.

The crusader is more useful in game, but i find that the regular one is more fun to paint. But that is just my opinion you may find it to be the complete opposite.

I suggest you buy the kit that gives you the most modelling options (The Redeemer) and then supplement your weaponry by buying the necessary bits and magnets off of Ebay.
