Alluring Mounted Daemonette

So I'm starting a demon army...began with Bloodletters and Plaguebearers. Was surprised by the Plaguebearers and disappointed by the Bloodletters. The Plaguebearers with toughness 5 and FNP quickly became the MVP's over the Bloodletters with more attacks.

So are Plaguebearers the way to go? Daemonettes have even more attacks than Bloodletters, but I now feel like the absence of FNP and a lower toughness will put them in the same boat as the 'letters.

And as far as Heavy Support, which is better: soulgrinders or daemon princes?

Last question: for HQ's I will probably run a GUO and Epidemius...which leaves 1/2 HQ slot open. Would Skulltaker or a Herald of Nurgle be better, seeing as I will probably be going with mainly nurgles.

I am new, so if you have any advice in addition to these questions, I'm all ears!

I think out of the lot of them that plaguebearer are just about top dog for troop choices

To start, Skulltaker will clean house. If your enemy has HQ choices, he will be worth it.

With the troops, spot on. Plaguebearers are pretty tough--I almost always add icons to my units for superior deep striking in later turns.

Bloodletters are stellar assault troops in most capacities, and great against Meq. Just be careful of mass-reliant troops like guard blob, gaunts, and ork boyz, because almost all of the bloodletter's advantages are useless against these.

Soul Grinder and DP both have their uses, but both are stellar. My preferance tactically would be the soul grinder.

Incidentally, this sort of thing should go in the tactics forum.

I love Daemonettes. They are fragile but devastating in CC. Plus the fact that they fleet and have grenades makes up for the lack of power weapons and the strength/toughness combo of the Bloodletters.

I'd say:

Daemonettes- speed and lots of attacks. Good for assaulting into cover and the defensive grenades allot them to survive.
Plaguebearers- tough to kill. That's about it. Great for objectives and taking cheap troop choices if you don't want many units of troops.
Bloodletters- anti MEQ. Good against high armor stuff with low invulnerable saves. Take big units cause they will get shot on the way to CC.
Horrors- shooting galore. A good way to get some more bolts into the list. Expensive but small squads are all you need.

Indeed, Daemonettes are useful against the horde enemies that Bloodletters are weak to. The extra attack and the high initiative, combined with grenades, means that they'll have a good chance of forcing a hard leadership test on their opponents through sheer number of attacks. Rending also helps.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

I think this thread will be better served here in Tactics.

@Shenra: Thanks to the latest Daemons release, there has never been a better time to start a Slaaneshi daemon army. If theme is important to you, I'd follow the advice people have already been giving . . . and also buy some Seekers!

I'd take one squad of Daemonettes over any number of Bloodletters.

Every time I've played against Bloodletters they've pooped their pants. Daemonettes absolutely wreck house - fleet - rending - going first 99% of the time plus grenades to completely ignore enemies in cover - more attacks. The list goes on. The absolute best lists I've seen, Daemons wise, is majority Daemonettes.

While i love letters for the power weps and decent stats, nettes steal the show for combat.
Cheaper, faster, rending, more attacks, grenades, 1st most of the time.

Only real downfall is low T meaning they will get shot down quicker.
However, due to decent costs you can field more ofthem to make up for it.

Allways take a unit of plagues if you may have an objective mission.
Throw an icon on them and you have a steady platform to hold objectives and bring in other units.

They are all balanced and good. You just haven't seen the others used. The Bloodletters wreck MEQ. The problem is they have to get them in the right situation. Hence, there is a trade off to the versatility of a Daemonette.

Same with Plaguebearers, I don't use them because I try to only have 2 factions represented. Many good lists will use 3 small squads at 1500 for objectives and then grab goodies with the rest of the points. You trade almost all of your offense for pure defense; balanced.

The Horrors are the only ones that can shoot. That alone makes them balanced here. They are expensive but have access to the bolt of Tzeentch. That and a 4++. So they are good too.

There is no clear cut one. It just depends on your play style. I make Daemonettes work in mine. I have seen plenty of good lists that have no Daemonettes. The Ard' Boyz winner for this past year I believe used a mix.
