3 Destroyers

Commentary: This is a game between my current nids and a guy using a list that's almost an exact match for my current cron list. I use 4 Pariahs instead of the Destroyer Lord, but otherwise it's the same list. It should be a very interesting game. He's a pretty good tourney player.

Nids 1:

Overview: Nids move forward

Parasite: Joins Gargoyles and flies forward + runs, slowing down to keep cover saves for other guys
Prime w/twin boneswords, poison: Joins gaunts and moves forward + runs
10 termagaunts: Go with Prime
1 Tervigon w/poison, furious charge : Spawns 11 more gaunts, no doubles, they move up, it wounds itself with a boxcars on catalyst
15 Gargoyles : Go with Parasite
9 Raveners : Go forward + run into terrain
9 Raveners : Go forward + run into terrain
1 Tyrannofex w/rupture cannon: 2 shots at lith, one hit, 2 to pen
3 Pyrovores in 1 Spod w/twin linked deathspitter : reserve
3 lictors : reserve
5 Ymgarl stealers: reserve

Necrons 1:

Overview: The monoliths make a wall while the Destroyers range out just far enough to shoot, and the deceiver blitzes

Necron list:
Deceiver : moves + runs forward, tries fear beam on gaunts in good position for charge + misdirect, but they can use the big bugs leadership so they pass
Lord w/destroyer body, warscythe: Joins destroyers, sits
10 warriors : in reserve
10 warriors : on objective, behind the liths
Monolith : whip out of range (this is the back one) it's sitting between some terrain and the warriors
Monolith : whip in range, kills 3 raveners
Monolith : whip in range, kills 3 gaunts (long scatter)
3 Destroyers : All saves made by raveners
3 Destroyers : Kills one and a third ravener from the wounded unit
3 Destroyers : Kills one and a third ravener from the wounded unit

Nids 2:

Overview: The Ymgarl's come in, and failboat, more moving forard, the Deceiver is surrounded by runners

Parasite: Joins Gargoyles and flies forward + runs, slowing down to keep cover saves for other guys it gets quite close to the liths now
Prime w/twin boneswords, poison: Joins gaunts and moves forward + runs
10 termagaunts: Go with Prime
1 Tervigon w/poison, furious charge : Spawns 9 more gaunts, rolls doubles, they move up, it fails to FNP with an 11
15 Gargoyles : Go with Parasite
less Raveners : Go forward + run around Deceiver
9 Raveners : Go forward + run into terrain
1 Tyrannofex w/rupture cannon: 2 shots at lith, both miss
3 Pyrovores in 1 Spod w/twin linked deathspitter : reserve
3 lictors : reserve
5 Ymgarl stealers: They arrive, assaulting 2 Destroyer units. They inflict zero wounds despite warping for attacks, and take two casualties, though fortunately they hold

Necrons 2:

Overview: The Deceiver kills most of a unit of Raveners, the liths warp out the destroyers and they do some more shooting

Deceiver : moves, tries to pin the gargoyles but the Parasite passes, charges the little ravener unit and kills it down to 2
Lord w/destroyer body, warscythe: Joins destroyers, sits
10 warriors : in reserve
10 warriors : on objective, behind the liths
Monolith : warps the destroyers + lord out of combat with the ymgarls
Monolith : warps the destroyers out of combat with the ymgarls
Monolith : whip in range, kills 2 gargoyles, but all raveners in big unit make cover saves
3 Destroyers : kill 7 gaunts from Prime's unit
3 Destroyers : put a wound on the Tervigon
3 Destroyers : kill the Ymgarls

Nids 3:

Overview: Pyrovores come in by spod and make a run at his castle, more surrounding of the Deceiver, more moving up, really credible surround coming in here. Parasite would have been over the Lith wall but he'd land within an inch of them.

Parasite: Joins Gargoyles and flies forward + runs, gets right up against the liths now
Prime w/twin boneswords, poison: Joins gaunts and moves forward + runs
3 termagaunts: Go with Prime
New Termagaunts, surround deceiver duty

3 Pyrovores in 1 Spod w/twin linked deathspitter : arrive, flame warriors + destroyers, kill 1 destroyer and 8 warriors
3 lictors : reserve
5 Ymgarl stealers: deceased

Necrons 3:

Overview: They shoot down the parasytes and do some more shooting at Nids. Deceiver comes after the taili of the Parasites unit to prevent it from jumping over the lith

Deceiver : moves and charges the gargoyles, killing 4 and taking a wound from poison,
Lord w/destroyer body, warscythe: Joins destroyers, sits
2 warriors : on objective, wbb back up to 6
10 warriors : arrive from reserve, join castle, shoot spod
Monolith : whips the last pyrovore and its spod
Monolith : whips a Termagaunt unit, kills 4
Monolith : whips the big Ravener string, but bad scatter doesn't hit
3 Destroyers : kill 1 of the remaining 2 raveners the D misdirected from and put 2 wounds on the other
3 Destroyers : finish the last ravener
3 Destroyers : Kills most of the pyrovres

Nids 4:

Overview: Tyrnanofex breaks the castle and the big unit of raveners goes in, army forms a series of speedbumps in case the deceiver heads towards my goal

Parasite: locked with Big D, who is going to misdirect, right in the enemy's face
Prime w/twin boneswords, poison: Joins gaunts, it is pretty much the middle synapse now, controlling the guants
Termagaunts, a series of walls to keep the Deceiverback and threaten turboboosting destroyers
1 Tervigon w/poison, furious charge : moves back, heading for my objective
3 Gargoyles : Go with Parasite
2 Raveners : dead
9 Raveners : charge over ruins of the lith and wipe out the Lord + his destroyers
1 Tyrannofex w/rupture cannon: 2 shots at lith, one glances and shakes, one pens and wrecks
3 Pyrovores in 1 Spod w/twin linked deathspitter : dead
3 lictors : arrive in cover near Necrons, shoot at warriors but don't do anything

Deceiver: charges the Destroyers, but failed rolls on both sides means nothing happens
6 warriors: lose combat and get run down by lictors
10 warriors sit on objective
3 Destroyers: boost
3 Destroyers: boost
Lith: whip termagaunts, killing some
Lith: whip termagaunts, killing some

Game continues:

Nid 6:

Lictors charge the last warriors, killing them and leaving the enemy with 6 Necrons

Necrons 6:

Necrons phase out

It was an interesting game, with nids swarming around the edges of the Lith phalanx while the Deceiver waded through an ocean of blood. The turning point was the lictors arriving on the same round the lith went down and the Parasite and Raveners both moved up and threatened.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

I agree pics would of made this rep more fun to read. Shoot I was actually thinking the Necrons were doing some damage at first. But as always its the phase out that sticks it to them. Sounds like a fun game

Do you use this nid list as an allcomers list? or was it designed for this opponent. I ask because Pyrovores and Lictors are 2 of the absolutly worst crap units of the current codex... and the raveners get instagibbed by any competetive army.

@thelord: The way Trilith Crons work is that the Monoliths sit in front of the Necrons (except for Destroyers on the flanks), and keep you away from the warriors. I'd love nothing more than to just kill warriors and get phase out, but it's hard to accomplish with those big bricks in the way.

Also, you can't avoid the Deceiver while trying to rush up around the liths. Run has made the C'tan extremely deadly, and once he hits a unit his misdirect fu turns the game into a nightmare. I was very proud of my ability to repeatedly encircle him in fodder screens. I essentially neutered him this game, and he still made his points back. Most games he'll make four to five hundred. He's still the single best piece in the game.

@Cryage: I hear you on the Phase Out. Such a brutal rule. It was bad enough in 4th, but in fifth it's a heart breaker. I'm a Necron player at heart, just waiting for a new list.

I was testing a new batrep format this time, it was much faster to right, but less informative, I feel. If you are looking to learn Necron lessons, here's what I've got:

#1: Deceiver is your only HQ
#2: Go min warriors, start them in reserve (walking on, not in lith)
#3: Immortals, Destroyers, Monoliths are good buys
#4: Min unit of Pariahs is very useful with Deceiver, only current anti-Mephiston piece in the Necron arsenal
#5: Scarabs and Tomb Spyders are not as good as Liths/Destroyers, but are still good buys.
#6: Psyker Battle Squads and Lash Sorcerers are the worst enemy, only hope is that the Lith wall can stand. Need to make them overlapping diamonds, not squares, so that the enemy can't see through to the Necrons behind.

You overall game should be an attempt to use your utter dominance of the mid range shooting game to destroy their mobility, then work at contesting/destroying their objectives late game while controlling a single one of yours with warriors that walk on late and walk into cover.

Sigmatron: Sorry I didn't have pictures. It wasn't a tourney, just a typical game on a Wednesday night at the Pit. My army was Behemoth colors, his army was unpainted. We had a sort of hodgepodge of terrain. As long as you have the image of the 3 Liths with a sea of Nids before them, and the Deceiver slaying with abandon in the nid's midst you've got the game.

jy2: Nope, but he goes to our club, and his Crons are influenced by the times he's borrowed our lists to go to tourneys with.

@Emperor's Servant: i must have missed that memo. They do fine for me, and my meta is pretty competitive.

Pyrovores are something that I think the internet is flat out wrong on. Try them in a spod, it's a revelation. The net, I believe, simply hasn't given them a fair chance. They are much better on the table than their stats would lead you to believe. The threat range on 2" deployment plus their dreadnaught bases, the collateral damage from their acid blood and then their explosion special rule...they work.

Lictors are more of an acquired taste. They might not be as good as another elite choice, but I'm addicted to the ability to put 6 s6 shots into any vehicle's side, anywhere, and then have Lictors sitting in terrain, ready to move out if they don't die ( remember they have hit and run). How many times have you seen a razorback sitting on an objective with a 5 man squad inside? Lictors excel in that sort of situation, appearing deep behind the enemy lines and turning draws into wins.

Raveners get insta-whah? I don't follow. Gargoyles w/Parasite give them cover, they follow along and fight hard. I've played in a lot of strong tourneys, I don't see a problem with Raveners. If I don't bunch them up to get templated I don't see how they are going to get slaughtered.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).
