Subject: What would you like to see in the new Grey Knights codex?
|

Thinking of Joining a Davinite Loge

Since it looks like Grey Knights are getting a revamp next year, I was wondering what people would like to see in terms of new models/units. Now, bear with me as I've only just started collecting them and have no battle experience (only one short AoBR skirmish in the store) but these would be the units I would like to see:
Jump Pack Grey Knights - They would have jump packs. No Storm Bolter but a large Nemesis Halberd (like the size of a GKT halberd) that counts as a Power weapon even for the regular Grey Knights, not just for the Justicar.
A heavy weapons squad - kind of like the purgation squad but two members of the squad could upgrade their psycannons to 'heavy' psycannons that could fire armour penetration rounds to help out with the armies general anti armour weakness.
What I don't want to see in the new codex is more units/vehicles that will effectively make them grey space marines.
As I've said, I dont have experience with them but I've been reading up on all the rules and looking through the different codices and I think that the two units I'd like to see would help out with some of the weaknesses they have whilst ensuring they keep their 'Grey Knightness'

I'd like to see Grey Knights filled out to a full army, including a teleport movement fast attack like the warp spiders.

More anti-tank. The heavy psycannon idea sounds like it could work, maybe some kind of psychic shooting attack with high S too?
Greatly buffed GKGMs is a must IMO though. As it is now, their saving grace is that they can cheese past EW with their NFW, since it "slays outright". I'd prefer if they removed the ability to field Grand Masters and added special characters as Grand Masters instead, so they can get the stats they deserve (upgraded Stern anyone?). I'd love to see Daemonhammers improved in some way too.
In the end though, the most important changes that I believe is neccesary is to either lower the cost of PAGK or give them better stats and rules, and to improve the anti-tank, especially in the melta-esque department. Meltas on stormtroopers, dreads and LRs aren't enough, we need some kind of anti-tank weapon for GKs.

Yeah, I really like the idea of expensive troops that are hard to win with but because they are so good you will win so long as you get your tactics spot on.
I would therefore go for the expensive models with new rules rather than making them cheaper and bulking out the army.

I think, rather than amking them cheaper, they should make them more worth their current price.

Are they definitely not worth the points they cost right now or is the main issue they have the fact that their numbers are so small?

They'd be fine if they were actually powerful enough to merit their cost.

i wanna see them combined with WH, XH, Sistas and Assassins so we can be that much closer to a cap on these extraneous loyalist codexes. Enough is enough. I cannot even believe GW still has to update BT and DA. The power armor loyalist rule sets have been out of control for a very long time.

1: some way to give most of my GK's Furious Charge or Init 5.
2: "Free"/discount Psycannon/Incinerator upgrade option. In the same way Tac squads for Space marines get special weapons.
3: I'd like to see melta by another name.

Anything anti armour. It doesn't have to be a normal space marine unit. Something suitably esoteric. Maybe give some models ( commanders/some squad leaders) the ability to use a weapon that forces re-rolls on invulnerable saves made successfully in close combat? It could be a wargear upgrade for force weapons maybe. Maybe make it so you could only take 1 in the army if its too powerful.

If they are coming I'd like to see them gain a few more psychic weapons like psycannon.... while losing other SM options. Spread out the differences between them and the vanilla boys as for me, they've always been different enough (apart from the landraiders) from the main rulebook forces.

Agreed. I'd like to see an option for an all GK terminator army, with psionics like The Gate for the FA terminator squads.

I think they should get their own kits for TAGK and PAGK, not just add-on sprues. Certainly they need it more than the Death Company did.

Nothing. They shouldn't have their own codex. One inquisition codex to cover all of them and one space marine codex to cover all of them. Problems solved.

Not that I don't think the chapters deserve their own codexes its just that for each marine codex that gets an update, one of the others doesn't & you get codexes that span 2 editions of the game ( DE, I know they JUST got their new one & Necrons). Lump the marines together & make more frequent updates that way we don't have wildly varied power levels and rule sets. Honestly they could just condese the marne codexes. I don't see why we have 2 assault marines ( BA & BT) and I don't understand the DA codex at all, surely a special character that makes terminator troops would work & C: SM is already better than DA at doing biker lists.
