I have aquired over time a number of stealers, and the space hulk Broodlord is one of my favorite models. I want to build a small, pure Genestealer army using the Broodlord as the leader and nothing else, no other Tyranids just Broodlords and stealers. According to the GW site in the Trynid product list under the Broodlord it states "The Broodlord is an alternative to HQ choice and is perfect for leading hordes of smaller Tyranids." However in the rulebook there is no HQ option. However crap an Army anyone may think this would be i want to try it and if anyone can clarify or suggest anything that doesnt involve saying sod the rules i'd be gretefull to hear it.

I think that description is a product of poor writing or of a prior edition. Unfortunately for HQ you need to choose between the options you've already seen. Broodlord is simply a Genestealer sarge.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

If it's not written in a rulebook, codex or errata, then it's not a rule. The description in the GW catalogue is based off the previous edition where the BL could be taken as an HQ, but has no bearing on the actual rules of the game.

Although, there's nothing stopping you from using the Tyranid Prime rules to represent a type of genestealer breed.

I think that is the way im gonna have to go, but i dunno wether to use my current BL to represent a T Prime or convert a Warrior to look more like a stealer, sounds like a challenge.

Convert a warrior to look like a stealer - I would suggest then taking a unit of warriors, so you dont lose infiltrate...

Huh?

Just use your Broodlord as a Broodlord and take a Warrior Prime on his own and stick him in the corner and forget about him or run him about like a headless chicken for the lulz.

BAM! Genestealer army!

Thats my thinking, i dont want to start introducing other units the Hq is just a neccessity to be legal, but i at least want it to look like it fits in even if it is sat in the corner. Kinda like the kid that gets picked last for the team that no one really wants.

Ask your foe if they would be cool with a game with HQ unit[s] being optional. let them know that your army was made based on a theme and you'd like it to be just Genestealers. if they say no, find another foe.

Failing that, take a Tyranid prime, and have it move off the board at the start of your first turn.

If you are willing to be satisfied using a HQ unit that looks like genestealer, the 52MM Inquisitor line had a Purestrain Genestealer model. It was issued on a 40mm base so it works for a Warrior Prime and it looks the right size to be on a 60mm base like a hive tyrant.

Here is the model and the box code so you can ask GW about the model if you are interested in it. A grey genestealer is shown for scale reference.

Models can't move off of the board unless there's a scenario special rule.

I would use that Space Hulk lord as a Tyranid Prime and (if you have them) LICTORS as broodlord upgrades for your genestealer broods.

A genestealer army would rape any army that doesnt have vehicles. If your friends agreed to play without AV, you would have a good game, and an excellent chance of victory (if annihilation)

I tend to take my Broodlord as a Tyranid Prime with Bonesword and Rending Claws. The points comes to almost the same as the previous edition broodlord, and plays almost exactly the same (save for the bonuses granted by the Boneswords) as well.

Yeah. I'd run counts-as in this case, using a Tyranid Prime as your "Broodlord" or Magus or whatever.

I would take a squad of Warriors lead by an Alpha Warrior. You can screen them with your genestealers running them up behind the horde. You could model the Alpha Warrior to represent a Patriarch and the Warriors are his uber buffed genestealers. You could also take a squad of Tyrant Guard instead of the Warriors as they will soak wounds better giving you a better chance of getting the Alpha Warrior into assault. I think this would fit the theme for your army.
