Seems pretty solid, tho I'm not sold on the VV squad... seems like a 1 hit wonder, so why buy all the stormshields/power weps @_@

Agreed about VV. Rather get more power fists or even more vets

The VV are there to not be one-hit wonders. Drop in and assault the thing that needs killed the most and live. They haven't been awesome, but they kill a lot and take a TON of fire away from my RAS.

I had a second librarian, but at 1500 it just felt like too much.

What other jump unit could adequately replace the assault-on-the-deep-strike hammer unit?

The VV play an important role in a DoA army, since they can eventually charge upon arrival and so silence guns.
For this, I wouldn't take them as a premium assault unit with storm shields.
They are there to charge shooters or a tank which can threaten your other jump packers.

i played a list very similar to that and just got torn apart by IG mech, everything else they were good against, just IG mech messed them up. I would try maybe going with Dante, and Sang Guard which is what i'm going to try next. you can deepstrike dante with sang guard, sang priest, and a libbie, they dont scatter, and you have a killie unit that can prob bust four tanks the turn they comein if you give the sang guard inferno pistols, and the libbie blood lance. I used Vanguard Vets, but they are expensive, and to use their special ability they cant have any IC with them, that means no Sang Priest, so i find them getting shot up, and trying to keep them within 6 inches of the sang priest.

again Vanguard vets are very good, but if you cant get that assault (as in with IG mech where everything is transport bound) they just got shot up a ton. I also would give them a ton less gear, just a few PW and maybe plasma pistols if anything.

Well, you could shoot the transports with meltas and then charge the remnants by the Vanguard Vets.
The DoA rule should make it possible that the scattering is not too wide.

Initially I had a much softer VV squad, and used spear with the libby. I also had like 6 infernus pistols in the list. This made dealing with guard much less painful, but I was selling the list short against my other opponents.

I for one really like the infernus in a DoA list, ymmv.

I know one of the guys in our tournament is a guard player with outflanking valks. I hope I am up to the task.

i think i was unlucky with the melta, and his deployment made it so i coudl very rarely get two squads near each other (without huge risks) unless they were far from his models.

i just see dante as being a great way to know you can get rid of tanks since he doesn't scatter and so you can scatter a unit first then place dante (with his attached unit) anywhere nearby as a support squad and fill it with anti-tank goodness. VV seems so circumstance based that they can be a fail if things don't go your way, and then they can easily be killed off. the risk to me, and it came up too much in my games, is too large for me to trust using them. Don't get me wrong sometimes tehy are great, i've used them to kill termies on turn two with a deep strike assault just there have been many times where they faulter and end up too far to assault and get shot up.

if you could have sang priest with them and! assault then they would be great!

Yea, that is why I bought all of them storm shields. It is overkill, but 3++ fnp is just hard to get rid of. I was killing 3 or 4 terminators before they even got to swing back at me.

I have little issue getting stuck in on the deep strike - I usually get a multi-charge off. I have had great success with the honor guard and VV in concert. Poof - dead land raider ( drop by a side door to prevent disembarking there ) then charge the termies with my fnp furious charge VV.

It works pretty well for me.

I wouldn't invest that many points on such a small unit of 1 wound models. The SS make them more survivable, but each unsaved wound kills 48+ points of model. I think you can almost get an entire second unit of 5 VV if you drop all the wargear from the unit you already have. They shouldn't be hitting head first into enemy CC units as they won't win those combats handily, even when armed to the teeth. You're also losing a lot of attacks by giving them Storm Shields, which decreases their direct impact on the unit they hit. They can tear up weaker units that have powerful guns though (like HWS, Long Fangs, etc). This increases the survivability of your entire army because they'll take a lot less fire the turn they drop.

It looks good aside from that though. I've been playing a pretty similar list at 2k points and having good success with it.
