So with the new rules allowing you to make alliances some events may do doubles games!
So overall I was just thinking: This is a perfect way to do nasty combos!
What absoplutely horrific combinations have you guys thought of? Im sure some of you out there have already thought of some cheezy things.
(For the most part lets say at a 2500 points level, 1250 points for each player, % are counted for 2500 (so you still get 625 pts of lords total), and folowing the rules for alliances)

I hate hard counters. In a game of rock, paper, scissors, I hate playing any of the factions because no matter what you choose you might as well not deploy against your hard counter. I want to use a gun. Rock, paper, and scissors could all probably still beat gun, but gun will never feel like a game is a lost cause. |

Our area ran a couple doubles events under 7th. One kind of groan-tacular combo was warshrines with stegs. I think warshrines. Probably not as brutal now, but definitely some potential.

Well shadow + life is naaaaaaaaaasty:
Step one Enfeebling Foe.
Step two Dwellers Below.
And there's Brets Empire and Dwarfs, each of whom can combine with the others for a brutal gunline, plus the FAQ-ed lance rules will help immensly.
We can also have scaven for bodies, paired with WoC or Ogres for crumpin.
Lizardmen+WE might work as one will bring speed and the other will bring streinght, might have to test that out.
Lastly DE+Skaven=regenerating monsters of doom.
All the specific combos are an attempt to make use of the trusted allies rules too.

Hm. Skaven slave tarpits backed by organ guns, WLCs, and other artillery? The uber-duber gunline?

I also participated in a doubles event in 7th edition (with Jin as my partner). It seemed that the nastiest combinations were armies that augmented each other's strengths / covered for their weaknesses. Sounds obvious, but for some reason it hit home a lot more after seeing it in action
I would like to see some more discussion of this, since there's an event in less than a month that is doubles, and I'm trying to think of a good partner to ask that could help out my trees...

Empire + Ogres is pretty sweet. Ogres for some smashing, and empire guns, tar pits, and priests to give all those fat characters things like re-roll hits/wounds, 4+ ward saves, and heal all their wounds.
The general should be a pope wagon for lore of light goodness; ASF ogres... m12 ogres... extra attack ogres... ::dreams::

TK + any magic intense army. Since TK don't use power dice to cast their spells, the ally can use them all. So in the magic phase you'll be facing say 6-8 TK incantations that never fail to cast, plus an allied army with 2x power dice. Add the Casket of Souls to force the enemy to save at least 3 dispel dice, unless they want the Casket going off at the end of the phase ^^

This is actually my plan with a guy at my FLGS - my empire and his TK

Wow, that TK idea sounds nasty... basically gives you two magic phases for the price of one!!
I don't have a magic-heavy army, but that would be a scary thing to face...

I spose the good thing about TK is that they are treated as Suspicious allies and hence can go with whoever they choose which is handy.
Sure they can't use the ally general's inspiring presence, BSB hold ground or have allied characters in their unit but if what youe saying about 2 magic phases for the price of one, who cares!
Like the idea of TK and empire but I think they are just a little too similar in ideas about sitting back and shooting. Think they need someone magic heavy who can also deal some hurt in combat...

Who needs that when you have 2 magic phases? Especially with lore of Beasts at your disposal you can make a standard General of the Empire into a Chaos Lord. (Combat ability wise)

haha This is very true...
Hmmmm If the percentage is split between the two armies (so a min of 625pts core) could you just have your empire army take 625pts of core plus whatever else and then spend all your TK s on special, rare and lords, leaving out any TK core?
Here's another question, say you did put together TK and Empire, can the TK incantations affect the empire army?

Good question... for the team tournament I'm looking at, I believe both armies have to be legal in and of themselves. Not sure about "allies" rules though...

WoC provide some really hard blocks to take the enemy charges and bring some nice supportive magic while the ogres get to smash stuff. imagine Call to glory cast on a Groinbiter

Sorry but this seems like a really dumb idea. WoC fight 3x better than Ogres to begin with, and putting the T4 no armour ogres into combat will only cause problems when you realize your opponent can direct all the attacks he could on the Ogres.
If you want something 40x40mm for WoC take Trolls, they rule with their special regen rules and stupidity on a Rerollable 8-9 (Throgg/Chaos Character of choice + BSB) won't hinder you very often.

WoC with something shooty like Wood Elves. The toughness and CC ability of WoC mixed with the shooting and speed of Wood Elves, both making up very well for the others weakness.
Though they would be treated as Desperate Allies, so stick in an evil army that is really good shooting-wise with WoC. Thats basically it in my eyes, WoC are excellent in CC but they desperatly need something to give them shooting power.
They also have excellent magic.

Empire and Bretonnians sound good. The Empire can shoot the enemy to pieces and bog down some of those big steadfast blocks while the Brets smash what's left and then flank the pinned in place units.
Empire goes state troops and gunpowder while the brets go pure knights and pegasus knights. And devastating hitting power and maneuverability to the Empire and decent infantry and shooting to the brets.

The empire already has the ability to do that though with their own knights. Sure they aren't as good as Bret ones but it's essentially the same result is it not?
In doubles you want to try and cover each others weaknesses, no?

The point is the empire doesn't have to sink points into its own striking element and can focus instead on infantry and guns.

This is true. If we follow the set up of 2500 pts (1250 each side) you're going to fit in a lot more bret knights than empire ones.

I had the nastiest idea, just now:
Get skaven with a storm banner and an HPA or two maybe some doomwheels, and some DE with lore of light and some hydras. Now the enemy faces several devestating big nasties and has to go trough the storm banner and pha's protection to preven't them from stomping him in the dirt, some DE chariots might be fun here too, impact hits are allays fun . Not to mention that by the time the alliance deteriorates to desperate (which is where augments can't be cast on allied troops), at least a turn of free casting should have occured (on average with two 4+ rolls having to be made you'll e suspicios and still legal to augment).
I'd hate to see those armies advancing on me under the effects of timewarp.
