So I recently played Daemons vs. my friend's orks. He ran a Kan wall, and claimed it was one of the ten best armies out there. After playing it, I believe it.
First my soulgrinder got axed first turn from a combination of Loota fire, Def Dred and Killa Kan attacks. Then, I had the worst time deepstriking my reserves in. My Daemon Prince (with Tzeentch mark and spells) began to eat the Kans, and my Skulltaker and an extremely resilient squad of Bloodletters faced a squad of shootas and a Big Mek and a Def Dread. Eventually, everyone on both sides was wiped with the exception of the Def Dred. My seekers hit and run, doing some light damage on one squad of kans, but was then wiped by grotzookas on the next shooting turn.
By that time, I finally got my second soulgrinder in, and he faced off with the Def Dred. Epidemius was hiding, and doing no good since my plaguebearers kept failing their reserve check. When they finally came in 4th turn, all my chaos icons were gone, and my opponent got to place them (after my first mishap) in the far corner of the table, where slow and purposeful made them useless.
Down in kill points 5-4, my daemon prince waxed one more squad of kans for the draw! And if we had continued, I likely would have been waxed since his 2 squads of lootas were only missing a couple models, he had a full squad of ard boyz minus 5 models, 3 kans and a def dred left, to my soulgrinder, GUO, Epidemius, Daemon Prince, and 20 plaguebearers.
Then again, maybe I would have got him. But either way, getting that draw at the bottom of the last turn was more thrilling and satisfying than any win yet.
