I've been hearing a lot of people claiming that Dark Eldar Hellions are going to be very threatening to enemy vehicles-- a recent BoLS post even said that Hellions were the death of mech as we know it. Do these posters know something I don't? Hellions seem more or less impotent against most vehicles, especially fast-moving ones, unless they have two pain counters for Furious Charge-- even then, assaulting vehicles is well known to make units horribly vulnerable in the next turn or two, and I can't imagine a unit with 5+ armor and toughness 3 will live very long after their charge. With no special weapons options and literally no way to hurt vehicles at range, it seems like Hellions will experience trouble when attempting to deal with Chimeras, much less Rhinos, Falcons, or Devilfish. Further, the investment required to get two pain counters onto a Hellion squad seems disproportionate for a single suicide charge against a tank. Is there some x-factor that I'm missing that makes Hellions a viable anti-tank unit?

did you know a bit over 80% of scientific false results simply are over exaggerated results? I remember "Hive guard are gonna shut down mech soooo hard pew pew str 8 dont need LOS" when the new nids came out. Every new codex is going to "completely change the meta!" Yes it will change the metagame. It's not going to go out the bloody window though.

I believe that the Hellions reference has to do with some sort of Haywire grenade launcher option. Don't quote me on that though, I haven't seen the 'dex yet.

are you sure they were talking about hellions? because hellions cannot take any anti-tank gear, and are only S4...

Yeah it mentioned a unit of 20 hellions with some kind of claw and charging multiple tanks, maybe something to do with tokens?

I've seen the Codex. Hellions don't have haywire grenades, don't get special weapons, and none of the Helliarch weapons give useful bonuses against vehicles.

wow, thats kinda weird. at best hellions are light infantry killers. all the stunclaw does is pull an IC out of combat. the have no anti tank options at all...

Either someone was pulling someone's leg, misinformed, or smoking something pretty strong, i don't see how anyone would consider them anti tank.

This is the exact quote.

The Stun Claw in the Hellions is nice. I think this unit with Stealth is going to have enough staying power and range to make it to any troublesome Independent Characters (ICs). They are also a scoring unit. Late in the game you could conceivably hunker them down on an objective with a 2+ save. They are going to have enough punch and battlefield presence to be able to charge multiple vehicles at the same time.

Suppose it does not say they are good for AV just that they can charge multiple.

I was thinking of a different article.

Razorback spam will be dead via massed Hellion squads and mobile infantry.

Maybe it's just me, but all my books have Haywire Grenades being absolutely terrible at killing vehicles. Can't imagine how using them at range would change a damn thing.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Haywire grenades are better than S4 vs AV10 for one round. However, it's scourges that have the 'nade launchers, not Hellions.

I can't see why anyone would say that Hellions are good AV in that case.
