This site ( http://iwl.me/) apparently compares your writing with that of famous aurthors. I went to this site and pasted every single narrative writing that I had on the comp respectively. These are the percentage I got (from just over 100 text documents of various lengths):
73% - Sir Arthur C. Clarke (Apparently I write alot of Sci-fi, which you will notice when the rest pops up)
16% - Harlan Ellison
5% - H.P.Lovecraft
3% - Robert A. Heinlein
2% - Isaac Assimov
1% - Some lasholes I have never heard of.
Although I do not recommend checking all of your writing (if you like me, write alot, be ready to throw away about two hours into it) but take some typical texts of yours and post the results here.
As a background to my own results, I wasn't really surprised, Clarke, Ellison and Lovecraft are my favorite authors and I have gotten alot of influence from them. Used to write short stories for a fanzine on the net back in the day and many were afraid to post comments since my writing was in the liking of Harlan Ellison (who is known to be one of the grumpiest authors out there).
Also, keep it civil, it's just basically an internet generator, results and opinions may differ from real life!

Everything I plugged into the analysis pegged me as Lovecraft as well.
I don't see many similarities in our writing; I use far too many grammatical technicalities to be all that similar to any given writer who serves the purpose of entertainment. Perhaps H.P. Lovecraft is who you get when you're too technical for anyone's good, though I can't be sure how the engine works.

I'm getting Ursula K. Le Guin, Douglas Adams, and Lovecraft. Lovecraft pops up most for academic writing.
Edit- Hmmmm, I just analyzed all the paragraphs of a paper; they give Lovecraft, yet the paper as a whole reports Dan Brown.

What I understand they compare what vocabulary you use, grammatical construction and narrative structure at its simplest level (where and how dialogue is represented... sounds fishy to me...)

I think you mean Anne Rice. She's responsible for a lot of famous vampire novels as well as some softcore novel-form erotica, which can be a good or a bad thing depending on your disposition. Again, this makes me question the validity of this program.

Yeah, I'm having some doubts as well. That's not anything like what I put in. I'll put in something different and see what I get.

I got Lovecraft

I tried two different snips of fiction I wrote and I got Stephen King and Dan Brown.
What's interesting, is that I was actually going for more of an "aw shucks" sorta tone with the first one, which I do think is something you get out of some of King's work. The Dark Tower series would be reasonably similar to the piece I plugged in.
I've never read Dan Brown, but I do know that he's rich as balls, (and so is King), so all in all, I feel pretty good about that.
By comparison, all you Lovecrafters have to be sad, because he's dead... Oh, and raging anti-semite, so maybe Gailbreaiahtehdhe was right about you all.
I just tried two more, and was Stephen King and Dan Brown. It would be interesting to paste actual authors in there, and see who it thinks they write like.
Awesome site, though, does seem to sorta work.

I got George Orwell and David Wallace Foster but the only thing I had to copy and paste from my HD was an old short research paper. Everything else is on my external HDD and I am far to lazy to go get it.

I got Ray Bradbury, Dan Brown, J.R.R. Tolkein, and David Foster Wallace.
I don't think these writers shared many similarities- I really wonder what its looking for. I will definitely use it for my high school English class though. They'll love the ego trip of thinking they write like a famous author, and it ought to provide some great motivation. Great find, thanks Vargtass!

Ah! Carruthers has gone native. Smoke arose from the plains to the west drifting laconically up into the clear blue sky. A solitary eagle wheeled lazily overhead. Trumping heartily into the ground Carruthers watched the raptor in rapture. The effects of the pappyquire beans were beginning to loosen the hold of his reason. They were also loosening the hold on his bowels causing the earthshaking flatulence from which various inhabitants of the soil scurried away. =James Fenimore Cooper I'm off to write a historical novel set in post-punk 80's London.

I am getting various authors for different writings of which each of these fellows/gals I got one of each (with the ones I copied and pasted before I stopped doing it):
Vladimir Nabokov (actually, the only one I got twice)
Dan Brown
Neil Gaiman
James Fenimore Cooper
H. P. Lovecraft
George Orwell
William Gibson
and the list goes on.
So in short, most of my writing seems to bounce all over the place.

To be fair many of H.P.Lovecraft's narrative are in the form of detailed reports, so I don't think there is anything strange with people putting in their reports getting Lovecraft.
