I've found, while playing Blood Bowl, that the Treeman model is just too big to lay down without it causing all sorts of havoc on nearby models, so I sculpted a Treeman Down Marker.
It's made of Super Sculpey and a 1.25" washer. A few quick layers of green, brown, and a light brown drybrush later, and I have a servicable and unique game token.
Here's a quick size comparison shot.
That's the re-based Warhammer Fantasy Treeman I've been using with my Wood Elf Team, the Wood Wardens, a game ball I sculpted to replace a misisng one, and my Treeman down marker.
For my leagues next season, I was thinking of fielding a Halfling Team. I know there will be a Wood Elf team using the Deeproot Strongbranch model and I wanted to field something different. I made a remark about how Deeproot was a fairly straightforward sculpt that should be easy to do, and a fellow league player scoffed at me. So in part to field something unique, and in part to spite the douche bag player I'm sculping my own treeman as well.
We play weekly, so I wanted to do something quick and servicable. I'm not a pro so my expectations aren't for somethign
GW worthy, but at least good enough that if he scoffs at it I can challenge him to do something better, which I know he can not.
DAY 1
Put together an armature with whatever I could find in under a mintue. Some paper clips, Alluminum foil, and some cheap epoxy putty (not really suitable for sculpting)
I got the basic dimensions layed out and a bit of putty to start bulking it up.
DAY 2
Spent the better part of an hour looking for the Green Stuff, I know I own, and my sculpting tools, but was unable to find either. Settled for repositioneding the armature to have a more dynamic pose.
DAY 3
Still couldn't find my Green Stuff, so I went to the local craft store and bought some Super Sculpey. It's not as good for detail and it remains soft untill you bake it, which is annoying, but it's better than nothing. No local retailer sells green stuff.
Started bulking out the model and added the fingers, torso, and arms. I decided I'd take pictures next day before working on it.
DAY 4
Forgot to take pictures before working on it, but remembered to get a shot after I worked on it.
I still wanted him to have wooden shoulder pads, but I didn't like the look of the one on Deeproot. Wood can be worked into more refined shapes, and I wanted it to look more like Sporting gear than wooden planks
DAY 5
Rescultped the back. A lot more detailed now
DAY 6
Started resculpting the arms
DAY Whatever
I really got sidetracked from this project, but I did get him to the point where I'm happy with him
Now all I need to do is get some paint on him...
