I was thinking of paitning up several themed objective markers for my army to take with me to out-of-town events. I play a Second Company Ultramarine force, on bikes.
Like many Marine players, I have a boatload of back banners that I'll never ever use, because I flippin HATE back banners.
These back banners make for nice objective markers, decorated with a spare bolter and a helmet on a 25mm base. I use one of these regularly as part of my set of objective markers.

I'd though about paitning up 3-5 additional markers like this, and giving them away to any opponent who beats me at an out-of-town game. These are dirt cheap to make, and a relatively quick paintup. Plus, it's a neat little memento of the time you beat my poor face in. lol.

Does anyone else do anything like this? Would you actually hold onto a marker like this, and use it in future games, especially if you don't play a Marine army?

That's a cool idea I might start doing the same. In fact, a tournament where you have 3 banners (3 losses) might be fun too.

I played a kid once and he was using a mix-mash of dice obviously from different board games at home. he wasn't cheating or anything since he just randomly picked up whatever amount he needed and rolled them.
Unfortunately his dice rolling was even worse than mine (which is pretty pathetic) and i ended up tabling him not on tactics or play, just that he failed EVERY save and Ld check in the entire game.
After the game I went to the counter and bought him a brand new dice set color matched to his army with hopes they would be a bit better than the 'bad luck dice' he was using.

Life isn't fair. But wouldn't it be worse if Life were fair, and all of the really terrible things that happen to us were because we deserved them?

what me and my freinds do, is we always have extra heads...
So to plaay we require that everyone brings a painted head, Then we have neclaces made out of fishing line

Everytime we win a game The loser gives the winner a head. then we put it on our neclace....

I have 4 tau heads, and 2 IG heads....

Its just a little game of who has the most Trophies

Kinda fun

I don't use Sentinels, and hate the fact that my IG Battleforce comes with one....

So one day I was building a new infantry platoon out in the local GW, and I was chitchatting with the guy sitting next to me, who mentioned how he enjoyed the Sentinel model, and ran quite a few of them, and was thinking about picking up another one. My response? "You want the one in the battleforce box? Here. Take it, I'm never gonna use the bloody thing."

He joyfully took the Sentinel, and a few days later it was kicking in the rear armor of my Leman Russ......

My son had a 40k b-day party and some friends (dakkaites) and I made objective markers for their games that each boy got to keep. They loved it! Especially since most of the boys didn't even have painted armies at that point.

Had a similar story with Fantasy. Gave a friend of mine about 40 of the old Duran Duran wardancers for his Wood Elves. Two weeks later, one of them KB'ed my prince off the back of his dragon. Just remember kids, no good deed goes unpunished.

I've actually given away some spare parts I had at home when i noticed someone on dakka needed some advice on conversions because he didn't have the bits he needed, so i mailed them to him :-) and also gave away a bunch of space wolves models because I wasn't painting them and someone on dakka was struggling to find some parts so i sent them 2 tac squads and a speeder (all the way to sweden) they were just boxed up things i had around and I thought why have them hanging around not being used, lets give them to someone who will appreciate them and they'll actually see the tabletop! and I like to make people happy and make the world just a little bit friendlier!

A few years ago I won a box of Terminators in a tournament raffle. There was this kid who had been watching all day because he wanted to get into the game playing SM, I wasen't using my SW in that period and even if I was I already had everyThing I wanted/needed so I gave him the Terminators to get him started.

Wow, there's some nice people on dakka.

It's a nice idea though, and im sure your opponent would be very greatful, personally the only thing ive ever given away was a scatter dice, because my opponent didn't have any and i had about 3.

Don Mondo gave me a big pewter bolt pistol after I beat him at the Big Waaaaagh! a few years back. It was the first time anyone ever did anything like that for me, and I will always remember his crazy lizardmen IG and great attitude, even when the dice were totally not on his side all afternoon!

Just started playing again. But my first tournament was in August. I came in third but initially they had told, a younger kid, he had, till I mentioned that they counted up my points wrong, which put me in third. Prize for third was only $10, and well I'm an adult, not a kid having to live off parents allowance, , so gave the kid the store credit.

Must be something about Space Wolves... I had 10 unused Space Wolf torsoes acquired in batch lots from EBay. Didn't want or need them, so I dropped them off at one of my local GW stores and asked them to give them to the next kid who came in and bought any SW stuff. Acquired two more since then, so once I get any more, I'll do the same again.

Lol, I was just making an objective marker, thought "I know, I could give this away at the UK Platinum Devil Tournament in Canterbury this Christmas!", posted to say so in that thread, and then this thread appeared next to it in the recent threads list.

Snake Eyes Gaming gives away some kind of Objective marker at most events we run. Generally, one of the rounds is a scenario that involves two objectives. Before the scenario starts we announce that each player is free to take one of the objectives from their table home. Most players seem glad to get the objective marker. Usually we make something like barrels or crates although occasionally its something based on the events story (PDF Mortars or Golden Tickets for instance).

I played in a tournament where my opponent was using a set of big red GW dice (I think they were for some specific army, maybe his Blood angles). he swore that they always rolled poorly for him, so asked if I wanted them. I use a big bag of mismatched dice, so I took them thinking I'd integrate thme into the general population.

A few weeks later, they're still at the bottom of my tournament satchel, and I draw a kid in the first round who forgot his dice. I let him use them, and table him, but I tell him that he's free to keep the dice if he likes, but that they may or may not be cursed. He took them, and ended up winning his next two games, thus making them his "lucky dice."
