Subject: Soul Grinder/Defiler size question

I am thinking of making a Soul Grinder with a removable torso that I can exchange for a Delier torso when playing my CSM army. My question is, would a rhino hull (minus the track sections) be too big for a Soul Grinder/Defiler? I have never seen either in person, so I can't visualize the scale. Thanks in advance.

If you're talking about having a Rhino for a Defiler torso, then yes, it would be far too big. A dreadnought torso would be better suited. I'll try and get a picture of the three together.
Edit
Sorry for the dodgy floor pic but your get the idea.

Not a bad idea IMO.

Can you be more precise? what do you want to compare to the rhino size? The legs ? the hull? the body(SoulGrinder)/turret(Defiler)

it sounds liek you are suggestign mounting a Rhino chassis on top of the defiler/soulgrinder legs.
or were you thinking of using the Rhino instead of the legs?

Sorry for my question not being clear. It sounded right in my head before I asked it.
I am thinking of using the Rhino hull as the chassis for the Soul Grinder. And making my own legs for it, 6 of them, attached to the four corners of the hull, and one pair coming off the middle sides, and having all the optional dccw's and ranged weapons on the interchangable torsos. My scale question is would using the Rhino hull with legs attached make the entire vehicle too big? I am going to scratch-make both torsos. Alternately, I could use a large Hotweels truck without wheels for the chassis.
And thanks for the pic Grimm! That is EXACTLY what I needed! I think if I take the track sections off the Rhino (2nd Ed. Rhino btw) and scratch-make slightly smaller legs than the normal Soul Grinder/Defiler, it should look about right. And I do have an old Dred that I might use for the Defiler toroso.

I guess if you remove the tread sections t might work. The normal Defiler chassis is actually really thin witht he legs providing the bulk of the models footprint.
but if you custom make the legs then it coudl certainly work. I actually like the idea of a treaded Defiler....might have to look into that.

I had thought of that, but the only one I have is one of the old ones, and I think they look silly.

Like I said before, this pic is exactly what I needed...and it motivated me to start on the conversion right away! Thanks again Grimm!
So, here is what I had to start with....just your basic OOP 2nd Ed. Rhino that has definately seen better days (I think I may have even sat on it a few years ago), at one point I had given it some rather heavy battle damage, then decided to run chaos, so it was painted with Chaos stuff, more recetly, I was going to convert it yet again to an Ork Looted Wagon, but I don't really like the stats for the Looted Wagon.
Then I read the Chaos Daemons Codex, and had yet another idea, to convert it to a Soul Grinder/Defiler. That is where this thread came in. I started off ripping off (literally) the side portions that house the tracks. I must have gone overboard 10 years ago when I glued these suckers on! Maybe I just liked the smell of glue back then, who knows...but it wasn't easy! Left me with some big old holes in the sides, much bigger than the holes for the hatches were. So, with some plasticard on the sides and some to cover the top front hatches, I started to cut up and glue the legs. I put a little more detail on the front legs as they are well, in front, so will get more attention, and they will also be the Defiler Claws, so need to be a little more beefy anyway. The Legs are going to stick out a little more than the track portions did, so according to the Pic Grimm posted, that should work out just right.
I just have the Dred body balanced on there to see how it looks, if I go with a Dred for the Defiler Torso, I will most likely buy a plastic torso for it, as the one that is shown is metal, and quite heavy, and might break the legs. I plan on putting the Defiler cannon on the round "turret" part under the Dred body, but if I get a plastic one, I might shorten the turret, and put the cannon in the front of the Dred body, and stick the head on top. I am still torn between giving the Defiler ranged weapons, or just going with 4 DCCW's, either way, I think it will be fun to play!
So, Dakka, let me know what you think. C&C welcome, and if I am forgetting anything PLEASE let me know! Thanks!

Well, it looks like this project may take a bit longer than I had hoped, along with being obsessed with my Bloodletter conversions, and you know, having a family and all, not to mention Hunting Season, my Soulgrinder/Defiler fell off the shelf when I was moving some stuff, so I have to put what I have done back together, as well as continue on the build. Stay tuned, in the comming months I hope to have some progress on it to show! And thanks for the votes on my gallery pic!
