So, for our Iron Kingdoms RPG group, I'm pretty much always in charge of the minis.

We've started up an Epic Level Campaign, in which we'll be fighting against some Dragons (and in IK, they all have to be massive Forge-World sized minis).

So, I could have bought a $500 Forge World dragon or $200 on the Wizards of the Coast dragon. But instead, I went ahead and picked up a $20-$30 resin dragon from an Asian gift store at our local mall. After basing and repainting her, I think she turned out pretty well:

Excellent painting, and a very savvy purchase . I'll remember this if I get back into the market for a dragon! I had been waiting on Heresy's WIP one, but gave up...

Nice, slick idea too, though I don't see what forgeworld dragon you're talking about, the most expensive one I see on there is $200 (canadian)

2000pts of beasty boys
1000pt rat pack - Clan Cozen
1000pt Savage Waagh
1500pt

Very nice job! Love the diamondback pattern, very nice.

Only quibble is that it doesn't quite fit the description of IK dragons, who are pretty universally black. Of course, your players are still rather screwed any way you paint it, what with the horrifying (literally) unkillable monstrosities that are IK dragons...

So yes, details of their gruesome demise plox. ^.^

any chance of a 'before its painted' pic? Could we also get a 25mm mini next to it for a size comparison?

Currently collecting and painting Eldar from W40k.

I totally forgot to get a before pic. I checked online and I can't find anything.

I'll make sure I get one on the second. Basically, this guy was all black, with some very faint grey dry-brushing on him, and a sort of boltgun metal slopped on over the armor.

The base I used is around nine-inches from one side to the other. My wife takes the photos, so I'll have to ask her if she's willing to get a size comparison pic.

That's awesome for a model so cheap!

"As I looked into its dead black eyes, I saw the terrible sentience it had in place of a soul. Behind that was the steel will of its leader. Further still I could feel its primogenitor coldly assessing me from the void. And looking back from the furthest recesses of the alien's mind... I can only describe it as an immortal hunger. It is this we cannot kill."

By the way, I now have scale pics:

This is our dear great dragon about to pick on Viktor Pendrake:

Oh lordy, that's well done.

I have a dragon collection, but it's mostly McFarlane dragons. They're cheaper than the usual DnD minis and pre-painted with a really nice paintjob. Yours look great.

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

The scale shot really shows off the impressive nature of the model. Pendrake is soooooo screwed!

That model might also make a neat scenario based game for Warmachine/Hordes. I am thinking something similar in scope to what PP did at Gencon involving the resin Slayer model representing a gigantic beefed-up warjack.

I've started doing a good bit of miniatures work with things that aren't meant to be miniatures.

I've got another set of wedding cake toppers on my table, all ready for conversion.

They're mostly finished already, so I can't really go back and get wip photos for them.

I'll post them up when they're done, though.

NEWS! I found out the name of the company that makes these dragons.

I went back to the little store, but they only had a tag that said "Made in China" on the dragons. However, when they sell them, they put them into boxes that say "GSC" on them.

I haven't yet found out what the GSC stands for, but I found that they make quite a few Dragon Statues.

Here are a few of them.

Also, I figured I could post up a few pics of dragons to give you an idea of what he looked like before I painted him:

I am tempted by these dragons myself. At that price they look very good painted up. And with giant hands like that, it fits in nicely with the rest of the Warmachine range.

I say go for it.

A few notes:

1- the horns of these minis tend to be made from pliable rubber, so they won't take paint. You will need to replace them with something (possibly with a bit). I green stuffed mine, but if you grab one of them that has a helmet on, you'll probably be able to simply extend the helmet and make it look like it was meant to be that way.

2- There are large flaws in the sculpts. They aren't that difficult to cover up with strong painting, but they're there. The underbelly of my dragon has almost no presentable details (the scales just melt away into a sort of goo). Now, those are parts that are difficult to see on this dragon, so it is ok. The best thing to do with those is paint them in dark colors that don't attract too much attention.

3- These things are big. Even if you aren't doing your top notch work, he'll take a good number of hours to paint.

I am a decent sculptor. So if I got one, I'd have no problem making the hands smaller, doing up the helmet, sorting out horns and flaws and stuff.

I think the best use would be for my Word Bearer zealots, as they are all quite Medieval, with monks, knights and priests. One of those dragons would look neat with a few guns and monks hanging off it for Apocalypse.

Ooh, apocalypse dragons. Good idea.

And there's no way that wouldn't work for the Alpha Legion.
