Hail, revered veteran Dakkaites!
I was toying with the idea of buying a few At-43 models, or even an entire army, if possible, and, as googling it gives little results, I was wondering if you could give me some advices.
Here we go:
- what is the quality of Rackham miniatures? Are they comparable, for level of detail as well as variety, with GW (or even FW) ones?
- are they standard 28 mm size?
- do they really come prepainted (which would annoy me to a great extent, but, whatever...)? And, if that's the case, is the quality of painting good?
- what type of plastic/resin/metal are they made of?
- any advice about starter packs, army boxes and so on?
- I like the look of both U.N.A. and Red Block troops, but, as Rackham's online store seems offline, I cannot see the single miniatures they sell. Any advice about awesomeness/flexibility/strength of races or factions? What should I start with?

thank you in advance!

Well rackham is dieing

Wait a few weeks and their stuff will be dirt cheap (again)

Heres some comparison pics of them (some may be repainted though)

28mm, I think heroic probably but not GW super heroic. Detail and Prepainted Paintjobs are decent. Plastic. No idea about army stuff since a ton of box sets are no available and things will soon be on discount. I think proxying may be needed. DLing the rules is probably the best bet to see which army you like the best http://games.rackham-e.com/en/at-43/game-aids/rules? I think UNA is a lot more mobile than red bloc who are dead hard at shooting. Not to say though that UNA doesnt have really nice toys like Jam Tacarms

I humbly thank you, sir.
But... what do you mean by dying?
Dying in the sense of new beginning, starting anew, throwing in something completely new or dying as...I don't know, dying? the eternal footman, the grim reaper, the great beyond, the light at the end of the tunnel, that sort of things? I mean, I've heard something about them wanting to release a new version of the game, new rules or miniatures or so I thought... are they really closing for good? That would be so sad...
Anyway, the miniatures seem good enough, not GW or reaper quality, but... pretty decent. Only some of the weapons seem... I don't know, strange.
As prepainted miniatures go, the colouring looks wonderful, expecially that of the armoured suit.

Miniature Market, Bargain Bin Gamer, and CCG Armory are all good places to start.

The absolute cheapest way to get started would be to buy the COGS army box--it gets you a complete 2,000 point army for about $50.

Sadly, the COGS are not one of the more aesthetically pleasing factions (at least to me). They are one of the most powerful, though.

If you wanted to get into Red Blok, you can probably still find a Red Blok Army Box (complete 2,000 point army) at one of the European online stores. By the time shipping is factored in, it's going to cost you well over $100. However, the Army Box has the two best types of Red Blok infantry (Krasnye Soldaty and Dragonov Kommandos) which are difficult to get any other way.

As for the U.N.A.--man, I like them, but their units are getting REALLY hard to find. Attachment Boxes for their staple infantry (Steel Troopers) have been MIA for ages. Unit Boxes for a serviceable replacement (Wing Trooper) are now *also* starting to get very rare. About the only U.N.A. infantry you can find are Star Troopers (which are decent) and Shock Troopers (which have the reputation for being possibly the absolute worst unit in the game). On top of that, their basic AFV (Fire Toads) are also near impossible to find outside of the Operation Damocles box set. Still, people offload full armies on ebay every now and then, so I wouldn't give up hope.

The minis are actually very nice (I have a lot), but are not as "bulky" as GW's, more humanlike. With a nice inkjob you get nice resin minis, Rackham always being high with quality even with their metal minis. They're about the same scale than GW, just less bulky, but work well together (I use Red Blok as Imperial Guards).

While Rackham as a company sucks, and the rules need a lot of fixing and the fanbase can be a little too fanatical for everyones good the minitures are awesome. Get them at the wrong price (official prices) and they are a laughable rip off, get them at the right price from the right websites and you can have a horde of miniatures for very little cash.

Most of the best deals are gone, but if Rackham collapses completely many will be ditching and so you will, for a while at least, be able to get some before they become collectable and expensive again.

The best answer I can give you is that AT-43 and Confrontation have for the last two years absorbed all my miniatures hobby money except for a very recent purchase of Warmachine, and a copy of Space Hulk. I had cancelled or postponed my planned Dark Elf, Vampire Counts, Battletech, Cygnar and Grey Knight armies to buy Rackham products, and completely aborted buying into Hordes and Flames of War. I havent even bought any core books of boxsets from GW in this time period and bought no other board games except an opportunisitc buy of Space Hulk.

The resulting four AT-43 armies I bought are about 50 vehicles of different types and over 400 assorted infantry, plus enough Rackham fantasy miniatures to make the equivalent of three 4000pt Warhammer armies. Together the seven armies would cover a good size dining table completely.
I invested in each of these armies largely on the quality of the miniatures I recieved, which was fairly consistent overall and sometimes what I can genuinely call a very high quality. I cannot really say much more than this.

Quick comment about the miniatures scale, they are not as heroic in proportions as GW but they are definitely not 28mm figs. They are 32mm or bigger. Notice how in the picture the UNA trooper is taller than the space marine.

As to the paint jobs, it varies, but the Red block Spetznaz colossus I purchased were good enough for tabletop except that there was just a base with no basing/flock, etc.

Actually it will be a good thing for customers in the short run, or if you want to use their miniatures to supplement other lines. In the near future (could be weeks or a couple months) they should do an inventory sell-off to the bulk retailers (mostly online), who in turn will likely blow the stuff out real cheap. However, after that hurrah the stuff will be harder and harder to get. Even worse if a fair demand remains the prices on ebay and such will skyrocket. Id advise keeping an eye on your favorite online store and get some $$ set aside for the big sales.

Quality is amazing for the materials and paint job.

- The "plastic" they use behaves like resin / plastic hybrid. Incredibly durable yet when they do break , they dont warp. In other words even thin wires can easily be glued back without
needing to be held in place.

- Painting : the camo is amazing , so are the decals. TBH its way better than anything normal painters can do , they even rust / weather the vehicles.
And for others that wish to repaint , no problem. It doesnt require stripping and the paint coating while durable , is very thin as well.
You can easily paint over their paint job , check my gallery , i have AT-43 repaint into Orks , no prep work needed at all.

Regarding the company , its not going too well for them and their future look grim , however some of us picked up the miniature for the purpose of loving Rackham's miniatures.
If you like the design , go ahead and pick some up if the gamers that got into AT-43 need to unload. Im waiting to pick more up :3 Right Orlanth and Cairnius?

I am also happy to pick up more. Though my focus now is getting hold of an ONI army while I still can.

The other zombies and zombie tac arms can be converted from released miniatures and mercs can be made fro steel Troopers with pig iron heads. I did a thread on this a while back. I would bring it up but the search function is knackered.

I think this point serves more to describe model quality than comparisons with 40K. I think I can speak for Luna here whwen I say we are willing to sink a fair amount of money into AT-43, money that would not have been spent if the quality was not good enough.

You can speak for me as well(I bought a ton even before I was a Sentinel). I hope to buy up a ton of ONI Zeds if they go on sale.

FYI - You get better paint jobs in individual/squad boxes than you do in the Damocles box set.

True, but it varies from kit to kit thoughout. Damocles and Army boxes are of less quality, but even they get a good basecoat, all they really need are some inking and/or drybrushing. All of the miniatures are adequate without, I do not have any miniature in my collection from Rackham where I would call the PPP quality genuinely poor, all are a high average to good, many exceed the quality I could hope to achieve myself.

we do ship to Canada, ONI we may have one item left refer back to post for a price guide I gave an example to help you get a feel for pricing .....
Adler hobby is a mom and pop brick and mortar store, we have a basic web site which is not a online ordering type store, the intent is you go to the website find out our email and drop us a line to find out what we have . I know thats old school but its what we have time for. we manage a lot of games in house Flames Of War ,Malifaux, and At-43 so we pretty busy and we also do events at local gaming conventions, we get our prize support direct from the game makers and it shows in the happy faces at our events.

Bottom line is we do things old school hands on not much time to run a online retail, so when you shop with us your helping a real store who contributes to growing and promoting the real gaming community full of real people. Our yahoo group NEAT-43 & FOWNE is a reflection of our hands on approach to the gaming community.

I bought moast of mine from Miniature Market, however their stocks are nearly out and bulkked out by generic terrain pieces, some lines have closed entirely. You can still pick up a Karman army though. The good news about Miniature Market, in addition to the price is that they sell bitz and noone else does. Though they are running out of that too.

The other location I recommend is http://www.ludikbazar.com/, they are a French trader and are runing out fast also but still have a better stock selection than I see welsewhere, especially of Confrontation.
