Well I got my self an older hive tyrant since I really have liked that model since I saw it in the tyranid codex (3:ed i guess) as an extra something about golden demon etc etc.

This picture shows the size diffrence quite well (not my models but Alex Kolodotschko here on dakka):

In the older codex they solved this by having the tyrrant stand on some rocks or something quite similar, but now to my real my question: How much height do I need to add, And what kind of basing should I use?

The rest of my swarm (that have basing now...) got static grass/jungel:ish style, maybe just add to that something that makes the base higher and maybe some "artifacts" of some enemies (half buried oil drumps, body parts etc)?

I have/work on these: Army and SOG of and a tiny group of (killzone) and some and last some and a gang of Cryx + Others...

I am not familiar with the newest codex, is there a game-rule reason why he needs to be bigger?

true line of sight rules will make the smaller tyrants of old easier to hide behind things and it is easier to get cover saves with the smaller tyrants as well.

my solution: use the old tyrants as tyranid primes, or build up the base as sort of a mini diorama. ie: cliff edge/river bank/etc the model is small enough that you can do alot on the bigger bases with it

You can use it as is if you want. If you really want to build up the base it's pretty cheap easy with GF9 concrete rubble. Then you can just cover that with grass or whatever.

2012- stopped caring

Anything that fits in with the basing on the rest of your army - a small clump of rock surrounded by your usual static grass/jungle basing would probably be easiest. Standing on e.g. a destroyed dreadnought would be very cool, but stupidly expensive unless you happen to already have something suitable in your bits box.

Judging by the photo, only needs maybe 1-2 cm height.

Well for cheaper alternatives you can buy tanks or trucks or whatever at yonder toy store and make it stand there.

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

Hmm a cliff/rock sounds like it might work nicely.

Thinking about making at least the center of it in cernit (similar to FIMO) and then either make the rock structure in foam or maybe just in cernit while I'm at it.

I've seen people use the old model for tyranid primes instead, being bigger than warriors, but smaller than tyrants.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

The old Hive Tyrant is Warrior sized. No way to pretent, it is bigger by putting it on stilts, a cardboard box or anything else. Just looks like a Warrior on terrain, not something monstrous.

Use it as a Warrior Prime (no official model for that) and everything is fine (see below, with Chapterhouse bitz):

Okey the (current) majority won me over. Will use it as a Prime.

Just need some devourers then i guess
