I've been toying with the idea of a Starcraft RPG for a long time. I want to know your thoughts on this, here are my ideas:
Protoss and terran playable, maybe infested terrans?
Racial classes i.e. Protoss Zealot, Terran Marine etc.
Protoss characters- chance of returning to play as a dragoon after death?
Space combat?
Dark Templar as prestige class, or alternate class features?
Classes by faction?

What do you think? What system, I'm thinking either D20 or the Dark Heresy system.

Dark heresy and all of its related books can pull this off.

It has space combat with rogue trader, prestige/alternate classes and systems for them built in and more.

As for playable classes, sadly you won't really see the zerg working with the terrans or the toss, besides playing one would be kinda dull.

Coming back as a dragoon? Easy, cybernetic resurrection, it's in the inquisitors handbook, just make some edits.

Yes, racial classes are easy to do. Make sure you start off with some basics and allow for branching into what the player really wants to be.

Dark templars could be created very easily by giving them an automatic distort vision power.

Terrans should get a bonus to their BS, while toss should get... hmm perhaps a low grade telekentic shield power? Making a toss character and class options would take some work without making it overpowered.

I think they actually made one of these a long time ago. I owned it, I think it was called Star Craft Alternity Game or something like that. It's not as deep as the D20 stuff, more like a miniature less wargame. But it had some nice art, might give you ideas if you could get your hands on it.

Looks like if you really wanted you could get the Star Craft set (although it's kind of expensive) and then just expand it with the core Alternity rules (which are cheap) where it gets too simple.

Prestige class of course. Depending on the length of the game, and how you set it up being a ghost should be in place of the calixius assassin.

They would be better as npcs. Same with infested terrans unless the infested is free from the control over the zerg.
