Right...
Do Melta bombs get a bonus for being AP1?
or do they not have an AP value?
or are they AP -???
I know it says there melta, but Melta only means that they get the +d6 for AP against tanks when under half range???

No.

Yes.
Bloodhorror wrote:or are they AP -???
No. AP - is not the same as no AP. CC Attacks have No AP.
They are NOT melta, they just have the word Melta in their name. An Assault Cannon isn't Assault and a Heavy Flamer isn't Heavy.

It's a natural thing to assume, but it's not actually in the rules. The whole is " AP -" the same as no AP? question has spawned long arguments in the past over cc weaponry, i.e. you're not the first one to see that little incongruity.

Thanks Gwar! 'nd MekanobSamael. Yeah, this is one of the more common mistakes. Everyone tends to remember "Melta weapons always have AP1 and get 2D6 penetration if in half range". Meltabombs only get the 2D6 penetration at half range (half of zero is zero ), so it's easy to forget that they don't count as AP1. I doubt your opponent was trying to cheat, just mistaken on the rules.

"Maybe, but the rules aren't clear" is the best answer anyone can give you without an argument breaking out.

I don't remember the exact text, and my 'Dex is MIA, but here are the threads where similar issues have been discussed.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/324217.page#2053333 (earlier today)
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/322956.page#2033314 (a week ago)
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/320298.page#1990990 (early this month)
etc.
Found it by searching "monolith"

In the necron codex, it states everything, regardless of special rules, gets 1d6 pen and unmodified strength to pen a monolith--except ordinance, which just gets the highest of 2d6 Automatically Appended Next Post: In the necron codex, it states everything, regardless of special rules, gets 1d6 pen and unmodified strength to pen a monolith--except ordinance, which just gets the highest of 2d6

Note that it says this in the stealth reprint that GW did of the Necron codex. So if your's does not say it, it means you have the original outdated version.

Do melta bombs get a 2d6 to penetrate against wave serpents, when performing death or glory?

Yes, the force shield thingy only works against attacks against the front and side, while close combat resolves against rear armor. Plus, I thought it only worked against shooting attacks.

Of course, the problem with that statement is that we all know tht a Death or Glory attack is resolved against the front armor of the TSing vehicle..................... Right? Page 69, main rules, for any doubters:
"Whatever form it takes, the attack hits automatically, so resolve the hit against the vehicle’s front armour (using the front armour even if the model uses a close combat attack),"
However, there is also the fact (as stated) that the Wave Serpent field only works against shooting (ie ranged) attacks, page 45, Eldar codex. So yes, the meltabomb would indeed get 2d6 against the front armor.
