Subject: Court of Young Kings Eldar 2000 points
|
 |
Insect-Infested Nurgle Chaos Lord

I've always had a love for themed armies, so I came up with this one. Based off of the Court of Young Kings of both Apocalypse and the former Craftworld: Eldar Books, this is meant to simulate the entire court going to war.
HQ:
Avatar of Khaine - 155
Elites:
Howling Banshee (10) - Exarch, Executioner, Warshout, Acrobatics - 192
Striking Scorpions (10) - Exarch, Biting Blade, Stalker, Shadowstrike - 202
Fire Dragons (10) - Exarch, Fire Pike, Crack Shot, Tank Hunters - 200
Troops:
Dire Avengers (10) - Exarch, Diresword and Shuriken Pistol, Defend - 157
Dire Avengers (10) - Exarch, Twin Shuriken Catapults, Bladestorm - 152
Fast Attack:
Shining Spears (5) - Exarch, Star Lance, Skilled Rider, Withdraw - 212
Warp Spiders (10) - Exarch, Add. Deathspinner, Power Blades, Surprise Assault - 257
Swooping Hawks (10) - Exarch, Power Weapon, Intercept - 237
Heavy Support:
Dark Reapers (5) - Exarch, Tempest Launcher, Fast Shot, Crack Shot - 237
Total: - 2001
The list mainly focuses on the Aspect Warriors and maximizing what I think each squad is good at doing (and staying within the point limit). All of the Aspects are present here and, with the exception of the expensive Shining Spears and Dark Reapers (the latter mainly due to points limitation) there are exactly 10 of each aspect. Dire Avengers get 20 because 1.) they're the only troop choice and 2.) they are more numerous than the other aspects. As per the Court of Young Kings, the entire army is led into battle by the Avatar himself.

This army looks awesome for a themed army. I would love to play this.

Thanks. Also, no other advice? I thought the list would be lacking something since the units dont work in concert as well as an Eldar List should, and it lacks some psychic powers...

If something take out the fire dragons, land raiders will just dance in your face and tease you all day while the rest of his force rape your avatar

The Firepike on the Exarch should solve that.

I mean you are on foot and 10 dragons won't stand up to a lot of fire power, they will fall quick if you are playing against an experienced player

I may drop the Shining Spears to give some of the more foot slogging units a transport. Shining spears are expensive money-wise and are one of the minor aspects.

I think this army will be very hard to play tactically with so many large foot slogging eldar, especially given the short range of most of the squads, and their fragile nature.
The Biel-Tan Craftworld is known as the swordwind, and relies on striking swiftly and decisively in focused attacks. Although it doesn't explicitly state it, I imagine this means most of their aspects (at least Dragons, Banshees, Scorpions and possibly one or both Dire Avengers) would be in Wave Serpents to deliver them to where they're most needed. This will improve the army tactically, and still ties in nicely with the Court of the Young King theme.
Lets say you go with stock serpents and mount dragons, banshees, scorpions and 1 avenger squad:
4 Serpents with Stock cannons are 400 pnts
You could subtract the following
2 Shining spears (70)
skilled rider (10)
4 Spiders (88)
4 Avengers (2 each) (48)
2 Scorpions (32)
2 Banshees (32)
Warshout/acrobatic (10)
3 fire dragons (48)
2 swooping hawks (42)
Reapers - Fast shot, tempest launcher (20)
Total 400
Alternatively, you could put both the Avenger squads on the ground, and not sacrifice as much of your aspect units.

I might drop the Shining Spears entirely since they were not present in the original Court of Young Kings and are a rather big pointsink since they are rather squishy for bikers (and not alot of attacks). The Scorpions will come on via outflank during missions to let them gain the upper hand (and I'll drop the Stalker Warrior Power since it's kinda useless when you're that close). I'll also consider the things you listed and try and equip the banshees, Dragons and all Avengers with a Wave Serpent.
Doing some research, the original Court of Young Kings are composed of only 4 aspects: Howling Banshees, Striking Scorpions, Fire Dragons and Dire Avengers. however I would be severely gimping myself to be limited to only that.
I might also drop the Warp Spider Exarch entirely (i.e: the squad will be down to only 9 members). Both for points-cutting reasons and because in Dawn of War: Dark Crusade it's the Warp Spider Exarch who is sacrificed to summon the Avatar (my own subtle poke at that reference, and the fact that one unit has to be missing an exarch for fluff reasons).
