Hey Everyone!

I just beat finished "The Force Unleashed 2" and wow...

"But it just came out yesterday," you say, "how could you have already beat it?!?"

The main story takes about 4-5 hours to beat start to finish... not cool...

Now it is a good game, with cinematic quality all the way through (I have to give it credit there). It really feels like the best action of all the Star Wars movies mashed into one, nonstop action thrillride. It is repetative as to what you can do, but it is so fast paced, the repetitiveness doesn't get in the way too much. The story is on the verge of being really good, but doesn't have the time to really flesh itself out. But I must say, I was fighting Vader, having a blastie and thinking it was the midgame twist where you learn the amazing secret, then all the sudden out of nowhere the game was over and I was left saying "NO WAY!!!"

So a fair warning to all of you Dakkites. This is a game worth playing, but it is definitely a rental or one to buy used. It is really really short and I am kinda peeved I spent $60 on it.

Anyone else feel this way?!?

4-5 hours? Gak. The demo was really promising.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Well, I'm guess I'm not getting this one for a long while (maybe at $30).

4-5 hours if you're playing it on easy, maybe. With no deaths, no restarts(barring when I stopped playing to sleep and swapped to movies, then reloaded the game later) it took me around 10-11 hours.

Tack in the challenges(which are actually kinda fun. One is just called "Deflection" and consists of holding out on a slim bit of ground and timing your blocks so as to deflect rockets back at AT-MPs and repeating laser/grenade launcher shots back at AT-STs)--and you've got another 3 hours, at the very least, worth of attempts to get Gold.

Oh, and considering they're already announcing that they will be releasing DLC that:
A) tells General Kota's story leading up to where you meet him

and

B) tells Juno's story leading up to where you meet her
in addition to new challenges...
They're just pulling what pretty much every game these days pulls.

"There will be DLC" is not an excuse to make a crap game.

Except it's not a crap game.
It's fun, has a pretty good storyline considering:
Spoiler:
the protagonist died in the first one or became the personal Hand of Palpatine, depending on your ending
and adds in the Challenge mode for more gameplay after you beat the game's campaign.

The first one, you finish the campaign and you're done until the DLC is released.

Sounds like it's worth renting at least. Hoping for more DLC that continues the non-canon dark side story.

I am not sure where the 10-11 hours is coming from!

I wish I had that much time logged. I played it on the hardest difficulty available for the 1st playthrough. I have to admit I haven't tried the challenges yet, I was so put off by how short the campaign was (plus challenges should be a bonus, not included in the game time).

Also, DLC is awesome, look at Mass Effect 2 (Huge expansive & immersive campaign) which had DLC on top of an already awesome campaign experience, but shouldn't be counted as part of the game.

Don't release a half finished game and say "We have DLC coming, we promise", that doesn't cut it in my book.

What was "half-finished" about TFU2?

Really, I'd love to know.

Ugh. Unfortunately, short single player games seem to be becoming the norm, especially since they can charge extra for DLC.

There's no excuse for it though. If your game doesn't have a multiplayer mode you shouldn't be able to complete it in under a day. Hell even with a multiplayer mode the single player should still be quite large. I'm looking at you MW2.

Yes and no.

I'd rather a short single player game with very little repetition in terms of the environments and level layouts rather than games like Fallout 3, which ends up with alot of the game and its environs feeling exactly the same as you transition from area to area.

Don't get me wrong, it was a fun game, but it felt like they had a great campaign/story going that came to a screeching halt.

Spoiler:
I felt like the point at which you return to the cloning facility should have been a big midgame event, and instead, in the expanse of one level Starkiller, launches an all out attack with the rebels, busts into the cloning facility to find clones of himself, and beats Vader to submission and ends the game... It seemed like it was a forced ending rather than a natural ending.

It would be like if you played Mass Effect 2, got to the part where you see the Collectors harvesting colonists for the first time, fought the end boss there and won.

TFU2 was just going at such a great pace then suddenly was done, with really no reason, as though the devs got bored with making the game. The story didn't even come to a satisfying conclusion...

Up in Canada we have a show called "reviews on the run" which has been on for like 15 years and the host called it "The most dissapointing game of all time". So ya, I would say just rent it.

I bought it for $100 Australian. God what a waste. The freaking demo had more dismemberment than the game for some reason.

If you have played the demo, you will notice the fething lack of dismemberment in the actual game.

The gorog was a massive dissappointment in the game, it actually takes about 1/3rd of the game to beat, absolutely ridiculous! Not hard to beat, just takes ages.

Like, you walk into a freaking massive arena full of dead animals and droids. Your thinking "THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!" AND THEN fizz. Its a big ass Necromorph from dead space with bones for muscles and a metal plate on its head that when you rip off and do a grapple move to stab your lightsabers into its brain does nothing.

Just stupid.

It's more of the same really, sadly. Too short, too rushed and not that refreshing.

Where ever the Emperor needs his eyes

Having read the plot on the Wiki, I can say I won't buy this, probably ever. I didn't find the first one that good, its gameplay was terrible, pretty much every character except for Kota is more or less forgettable and Starkiller was the biggest Mary Sue I've seen canon side of a fan-fiction in quite some time.

Having read about 2 and played the demo, the game plays about the same, Starkiller still sounds like a Mary Sue and the story is yet another fan-fiction tale.

Things like this and The Clone Wars CG make me sad for the future of Star Wars.

Star Wars has no future, not any more, not since Lucas announced a new trilogy.

Yeah, I have to say--and this as a huge fan--that Star Wars seems pretty much done. Neither Clone Wars nor the Force Unleashed "Media Project" have convinced me otherwise. Some people seem to love Legacy but it doesn't even feel like Star Wars to me (like the Thrawn trilogy, to be honest--and no point mentioning the Yuzhan Vong or whatever). The news that KotOR is going MMO breaks my heart, as I felt that was the last hope for the franchise.

As I said before, FU2 (is it a coincidence that LucasArts is putting out Star Wars games that can be abbreviated as "FU"?) looks like a pass for me. And nothing I've read here or elsewhere has really prompted reconsideration.

One thing that I think people keep forgetting is that The Force Unleashed?

It's not meant to be in continuity. It's a "What If..." scenario, as in "What if Vader had tried to subvert the Emperor?".

This is canon sadly, George gave it a green light et al. The good endings are canon, the Hoth expansion and dark side endings are non-canon.

BrookM has is right. SW:TFU is canon.

Although, as I get older, I tend to ignore more and more "official" cannon in my own "personal" SW canon.

Pretty soon, I think I'll only be considering Star Wars (the original theatrical release version, pre-Episode 4) as actual canon. None of this Luke and Leia are siblings or Darth Vader being Luke's dad bull .

Ok, maybe its already happened...

Hrmh.

The interviews I saw with the Force Unleashed development team was that they had been greenlit to use canonical characters, such as Leia and Mon Mothma, not that it was itself canon.

"You can use canonical characters" is obviously not the same as saying "you can use canonical characters in your 'what if' scenario story." TBH, I don't even know how one would figure out the answer to this question.

Lucas said go for it, but he insisted on adding in the droid sidekick and the love interest. At first they wanted something between Mary Sue and Leia, but yeah, that would've been kinda awkward.

I really don't know where you got that from.

Proxy had concept art for him done before Lucas approved the storyline. From what I understand, there's a piece of art of Starkiller and Proxy that is what actually sold Lucas on the project.

Yeah, and there's also a whole hour long thing that was aired on G4 when the game originally released.

@Kanluwen

Everything I have heard is that the TFU is cannon considering that in other SW things Vader has tried to subvert the Emperor and the Emperor has frequently tested him.

Why do you chose not to have EP V in your personal canon?
