Its 11:30 PM in front of a 7-11 Convenience store. Guy pulls up in van, i give him 180 dollars. He gives me a box full of "Stuff" I rush home. Open the box then stare at my new digs. 2 Land Raiders, 2 Predators, a Rhino, Land Speeder, and Some Assault Terminators. Thank god for Craigslist.

I was about 80% sure i was going to get mugged. But it was worth it.

Wow, midnight 40k trades. If you didn't get mugged, then I'm guessing the stuff was stolen in the first place, LOL.

I can see the future of this hobby now;

Mom: "Where were you last night?"
Kid: "I was buying miniatures from a friend"
Mom: "oh 'buying miniatures' is that what they call it these days!? I'm ashamed of you! I thought you were better than that! after everything your father and I taught you!"

as much as i envy you about your now shiny models i wouln´t by stolen property. and as much you can be sure of, this amount of money would never ever give you this amount of models. only mental slowed people would sell this stuff that cheep. so it´s pretty clear that some poor heini is in pretty bad shape now as his minis are gone. or they were stolen from a shop, which companies try to compensate their losses by raising prices... well system might work for you for a short time, in the end i hope your behind will get also some bad end of the bargain...

Only mentally slowed people would sell stuff that cheap? Wow. Not only do you know almost nothing about that situation, but you managed to be both ignorant and offensive at the same time! You get double points for that.

He got a bunch of random stuff for about 40% off. Online sellers can give you deals of up to 25% off. So he got slightly cheaper models, in unspecified quality, as the poster said, not new, possibly from someone that just wanted to get rid of them.... and the guy that sold them to him is suddenly a thief and/or slow?

Great job there Sherlock. Top notch stuff. You should probably stop posting.

Seeing as it's nearly Xmas -- cards are in the shops, tinsel is on sale, crappy bands are reforming for new tours and so on -- we'll be charitable and put this down to linguistic differences.

I can appreciate the sentiment that you're trying to express.... I think... but in future if you could express yourself in a somewhat less crass manner your point will be better served. Ta.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

It can only get worse when 'dipping minis' is mentioned as well as 'flocking bases'.

okay, i might have stepped over the line.
i want to apologize for that.
i haven´t done the maths and if that sum is about 40% off of the store prize then i was in the wrong.
the stated surounding setting just seemed to me like backalley trading...
at ebay i bought much of my minis also really cheap but i think thats different, cause some people miss auctions and sometimes you can get rellay lucky. but also the selling person isn´t happy then...

and @ ph34r
if i do something wrong and i get trashed my mods THEN i will stop posting.
as i see it i am able to see if i´m doing somthing wrong and then i can learn something from it. so please spare me your suggestions.

Bingo. Ive sold stuff at a huge loss on ebay simply to get rid of it, or to start funding a new project. Some of them were even things I bought just for the fun of building and painting. I do it, take a photo, it sits on the shelf for months (or more). Eventually I decide to sell and buy something else. So I end up with 50% of what it cost new...I got my enjoyment form the building and painting.

Whats my game?

Why? Is the person you're buying it from losing money?

I did almost the same thing the other day. I was standing on a corner in North Philly waiting for a man I have never met. This guy shows up, I receive a box from him, inspect it quickly, hand him some money and we part ways. I walk away with the feeling of "wow that looked like a drug deal"

@H.B.M.C.
well yeah, when buying stuuf cheap, some other one loses money. if we take into account that buying models normaly (in the sense of what GW wants us to do) is via a shop (internet/ rl), then this suggest that these people formerly bought these things at a higher price. when i get it cheaper they are at a loss. the conclusion is that i don´t sell stuff lighthearted at ebay...

I would honestly rather deal with people then have to deal with shipping and such from Trading/Ebay - I occasionally use bits sites for stuff i cant find on the streets.

If the seller really thought they were getting that bad of a deal or taking that much of a loss they probably just wouldn't sell the models.

I had a friend whose dad bought almost £660 worth of models for £40 at an auction(it was mainly rulebooks/codex/army books but also lots of DkoK and ork stuff).
But i will admit from the firs fw lines of the OP i did think it was a bit dodgy.

Never heard this expression before.

I can infer something dodgy/dangerous but it sounds very odd to me.

Sketch or sketchy is a situation in which the action you've been asked or arranged to do is something that lacks detail or clarity... usually because of some ulterior or illegal motive.... dodgy would be a good synonym.

Thanks Mythos
It was dropping the 'y' off the end that threw me.

Is no longer sketchy and much clearer now.

Whether the models the OP bought were stolen or not I can't say. However, I'm of the free market mentality. If you can get the same product, cheaper, and (to your knowledge) legally, go for it. It's being environmentally friendly. We are recycling here people!
