I really wanted to have a go at building a tank, but could not justify £27 for, sorry I mean my wife could not justify £27 for a kit. So when I was able to pick up a kit that was reduced I jumped on it.

This is what i've done so far.

I must say it is thoroughly enjoying assembling it, althought that my be the poly cement taking affect
I've got an old forge world chaos dread engine to go on the back, and for the main cannon i've got a dragon head to go around it, keeping to my "daemon heads on all weapons theme "
I don't like the sidepod bolters that come with this kit and was gona just leave them of, but i see on the new Leman Russ kit there are a few weapon options. So i'm gona have to buy more bitz bringing the price up again, just need to sneek these passed the wife .

A few questions I have for people.

Would side mount weapons from a Predator or Land Raider fit on this, or are they too big?
What other weapons other than bolters could I have on the side pods?

Any other advice would be welcome too.

It should be in the codex, but I think it was just H-Bolters, Lascannons, and H-Flamers.

Also, no. SM Sponsons are built on a different base than the IG vehicles. While the weapons themselves from a Predator would not look out of place, you're gonna have to do some heavy conversion work to get them to realistically fit. Alternatively you can just cut them off at the barrel and attach them to the sponson housing provided with the Leman Russ.

Also, as for the Russ itself, it needs to be more spiky and have a few more chaos icons on it. Maybe a tentacle or two as well. However it's coming along nicely. =)

If you can, get your hands on a Soul Grinder head and use that on the Battle Cannon. it would be like a shout-out to the WHFB Hellcannon =D.

EDIT: Oh god you got me into the treadhead mood, but I have homework T.T

Thanks Element,

I was going to paint it Blue with Gold trim, as I have a Thousand son theme going on. Im gona try to paint my dread this weekend in the same colours, so I can see if I can get some techniques done on a smaller model before I start this beasty. I'm really intrested in getting a good weathered look.

Here's a couple more progress pics,

The dragon heads look nice, and I agree with everyone else when they say moar spikes. To solve your "I hate weapon pods" problem, you could have some Chaos Renegade Troopers maning a heavy bolter on either track-guard of the russ. That, or you could make it look like a daemon has grown out of the sides of the russ, and have morphed their mouths into a Heavy Bolter.

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

Gathering the Informations.

Do not go overboard on spikes.

A trophy rack with a few skulls or impaled Guardsmen? Acceptable.
A tank that looks like a bloody hedgehog isn't.

Alternatively, a cool thing you can do? String the hull of the tank with posts of barbed wire. It adds a more feral look to it.

Nice update. I think it looks real good now. The right amount of chaos additions. I agree about not going overboard on the spikes...I think what you have right now is near perfect balance in terms of iconography and additional chaotic pieces. The turret looks fantastic!

Hey amazing work. i agree with other posters about not going to heavy on the spikes, but you could add some to the track guards, only a few though i think it would give it a little bit better look.

Ok, I left the Russ collecting dust while I really got into finishing off my first dread. So I thought I'd better give it some attention.

I've added a chaos symbol to the rear,

and one on the tip of the cannon.

I found another use for the Dark Elf shield.

I wasn't gona use the side box, but then I wanted to put some sort of targeting system on.

Finally I started to add the last few spikes, I'm gona add skulls and skeleton bodies later, as I'be done on my khorne dread.

I'm still waiting for some predator left and right heavy bolters to come in the post then it will be complete.

What does everyone think?
