So a thought that I had was that flamethrowers are a pretty scary prospect for vehicles because a vehicle covered in burning fuel is an oven, and if it gets inside then the crew and passengers are burned meat.

This is reflected in the rules for intact buildings, where a template weapon within range of a fire point on a building can inflict 1D6 wounds on the occupants. What do you think, should this rule be extended to vehicles?

Open toped vehicles for sure, I can see shooting into a vehicle from a fire point as well.

I can see this rule affecting the passengers only though as it is a direct shift of building rules to vehicle and the version that effects buildings only effects the occupants not the building itself, so the vehicle then wouldn't be affected just its cargo.

Personally I like it and it makes sense, and im always in favor of simple tweaks that bring the game more inline with common sense.

I like this rule as well. I think an important aspect for this rule will be clarification in terms of what vehicles types are affected and how they are affected. The way I see it is that open to oped transports would most likely be more venerable than an enclosed vehicle.

Well, enclosed vehicles presumably have no Fire Points, so one couldn't fry the passengers inside. An open-topped vehicle is basically one big fire point. Vehicles with Fire Points have them indicated on the model.

Don't open topped vehicles already have a rule that causes template and flamer weapons to cause multiple hits, or has this rule been removed in 5th edition?

That rule has been removed and replaced with a universal +1 to damage Open-topped vehicles (and note that Venom Cannons and Heavy Venom Cannon don't suffer from their -1 to damage to non-Open-topped vehicles, so they get the +1 rather than cancelling it out).

I like the idea of being able to flame Orks & DE in their open-topped vehicles. Makes Land Speeders MUCH more fun...

I think that with the +1 to the damage table, if you roll a 6 the +1 should cause the occupant to be ejected D6 inches in a random direction...

I like this generally--maybe the attacking player would decide whether to attack the passengers or the vehicle itself (since things like flamestorm cannons and heavy flamers do have a small but finite chance of actually destroying said vehicles).

There's just an acre of you fellas, isn't there?
