I think this is the best place for this thread but here goes...
Is it just me or has the quality of the paints in GW gone down hill drastically? Having only just started collecting and painting again I cant say its something I've watched happening but my old paints were much, much thicker (and no it isnt from age as I remember them being much thicker back then too). The new Blood Red I just bought is very watery and taking a lot of coats to cover the undercoat and the Warlock Purple I got was quite thin too but I have hardly used it so I can't be sure. Even then the Red is very patchy wherever the paint decides to settle. Now Ive not bought many paints since starting as all my old ones are still pretty much full and in perfect working order.
So is it that the paints are much thinner now or have I just got a bad one?

if its really watery shake the bottle(closed ^^). i guess the pigments have settled on the ground.
i still have some of the old colors and the main difference is that the old ones last forever.
red can sometimes be a hard thing to paint, just like yellow.
im always fine when i thin down my reds, use enough layers and the right basecoat

I agree with who I suspect to be Bahamut.
Haven't noticed any changes in Blood red and I got a pot of each generation except for the very first citadel ones right in front of me. Blood Red never was the "strongest" paint in the world but I haven't noticed any changes over the past 10 years.

The newer paints being too dry is the usual complaint. I think it's the newer pots rather than the paint, although if it's really watery you may just have a bad one.

Ill admit some of the paints are a bit "watery" i dont think its a pot problem tho, i have both the old haxagonal one and the newer round pots and 2 of them allow a ceramic bead to rattle inside them even with the paint which i dont think the paints i bought a good few years ago would have allowed.
I have no problem using the watery paints tho, usually a small amount is added just to thin it out when painting tho.

The paints im using are quite easily 10 years old. And I've got a huge range of metallic paints that apparently they dont do anymore. When my Glistening Green is gone there is no more Its one of my main colours as well lol

I tested this with an old rubber-top sunburst yellow and a new pot as the old one looked thicker, but they painted the same (i.e. really badly). I guess that they might use less gel and more water when manufacturing but the pigment amount seems to be the same.
Try basecoating with Mechrite red (the foundation paint) or mixing some mechrite into the blood red - I had very good results mixing 25% Iyanden Darksun into Sunburst Yellow to get that abomination to work.
On a related note though, the metallics are much better now and the washes and foundations are awesome (using the real meaning of the word).

Aandayyan: Back when you got your paints, they were being made by a company which is now selling the SAME paints in the SAME bottles, under the name Coat D'Arms. They're cheaper than GW, they do all the old colours you remember, and they're based in the UK! : http://www.blackhat.co.uk/coat_darms/paintcolours.php
Here's a colour chart so you can tell who's who in the renamed range: http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Paint_Range_Compatibility_Chart
I would, however, also suggest grabbing the new Washes and Foundation Paints to supplement your collection, as they really have their uses and painting reds and yellows is definitely one of them.
EDIT: Pretty sure Glistening Green (the metallic?) is now Enchanted Green. They're only about £1.70 per pot too: http://www.blackhat.co.uk/online_shop/index.php?cPath=21_39&osCsid=d299b9abff76635881f2248c7b2795ab

Though they may be different now, thinner paints are better than thick paints. But as you stated they do take multiple coats which is ok. The results are much better when thinned. Although, GW paints don't have to be thinned anymore, which does mean that more money is spent on paint, instead of thinning thick paint.

Hmm, I havent really noticed, then again when I took a 3-4 year hiatus from 40k I sold my older paints. I from my memory though, the paints lasted a very long time. My only beef with GW is the fact that ive been into the game for about 10 years, yet they basically have the same terrible bottle concept for their paints! Go to a drop bottle already dammit!
