I have two dreadnoughts, one is a pre- AOBR Dread, plastic, and the other is a AOBR Dread. I want to convert both to venerable space wolf dreadnoughts. It seems to me that this is mostly a cosmetic change? I don't know if I even know what a venerable dreadnought really looks like compared to a regular one.

A venerable, will probably have scriptings and purity seals, and to make it space wolf like, I need to add a few space wolf skulls and tails dangling off places. But... is there any obvious physical conversions that NEED to be done to make it look like a decent venerable dread?

nope, unless the venerable has some weapon loadout that the AoBR dreadnought can't show...

I run two dreadnoughts, they are identical models with different paint schemes, and the one in Deathwing livery is always my venerable. Just designate it properly with a lot of purity seals and other decorations...

I thought they were a little bigger than normal ones. But it's not the size that counts, it's how you use them.

Innuendos aside, unless your opponent's a whinger it doesn't really matter, as long as it's distinguishable from your "normal" 'naught.

It would be a lot of work, but you could make a ven dread out of an AoBR dread. How much work it will be depends on the Mark you wanna have. A Mk V ven dread would be easier to make. A Mk IV would be a bit more complicated. you can archive a very special and unique ven dread if you´re willing to invest the time and work in it. Here´re some examples of my dreads.
That´s the Mk IV ven Dread from FW. i made a claw conversion for him.

I can still remember the days when this fine model was first released (damn, i´ve become old )
Bjorn the Fell-handed (Mk V):

Night Lords Mk IV dread:

It´s not a AoBR dread, but it would be the same way to get the Mk IV look. I used a Dremel to cut the original Sarcopharcus away and replaced it with a terminator torso. Some green stuff, guitar/bass strings and some bits from the bitz box for the finish.

Surprise is an insubstantial blade, a sword worthless in war.
It breakes when troops rally. It snaps when commanders holt the line.
But fear never fades.
Fear is a blade that sharpens with use.
So let the enemy know we come. Let their fears defeat them as everything falls dark.
At the world´s sun set.....
As the city is wreathed in its final night.....
Let ten thousand howls promise ten thousand claws.
The Night Lords are coming.
And no soul that stands against us shall see another dawn!

Perfect, I love the work I see here. I'm going to do something like that. I'll have to investigate what the leg armor looks like, and if I can add plasticard to build up the size of the chest of the dreadnought. I might consider cutting away the sarcoghagus.

This guy started out as an AOBR dread. I've since changed the banner to the nicer one from the Wolf pack box set, but he has made the rounds of both Ven and normal and no one has ever complained.

The AOBR dread actually has better details than the older plastic ones.

generally, a little bit of extra bling goes a long way in making a dread look venerable. i sometimes use my dreads as venerable so i added a bunch of bits to the AOBR dreads i have to make them stand out (as well as repositioning the "i just got off a horse legs").
